Giesige, girls 4x800 relay advance to state

MARION__The Bluffton High School track and field teams had several athletes compete well on day one of the Div. IV regional meet hosted by Marion Harding on Wednesday, May 27. 

ADVANCING TO STATE
Some events held their finals on Wednesday evening. Top 5 placers and 3 at-large advance to state finals at Ohio State University in Columbus next week.

FINDLAY__The Bluffton High School girls track and field team finished second and the boys came in a strong fourth at the 14-team Div. IV northwest district meet in Findlay on Wednesday and Friday, May 22.

Bluffton sophomore William Hoover was named honorable mention All-Northwest Conference in voting conducted by the league baseball coaches recently.

Chayse Overholt of league champion Lincolnview was named NWC Player of the Year. Lancer mentor Eric Fishpaw was named NWC Coach of the Year by his peers.

Lincolnview won the league title with a 7-0 record. Allen East and LCC tied for second at 5-2. Bluffton ended up seventh in the eight-team league at 1-6, ahead of Delphos Jefferson (0-7).

 

MEDIA RELEASE__This Thursday and Friday, May 28-29, The Bluffton Shuffleboard Club will be hosting two shuffleboard tournaments at Buckeye Park.

Thursday's event is a draw tournament and Friday is the Steve and Cindy Slaughterbeck Memorial Tournament. Steve was the President of the club for many years and Cindy was the treasurer.

Both tournaments start at 9:00 a.m.

The 145th Commencement ceremony at Bluffton High School took place on an overcast Saturday evening, May 23. In an event both solemn and joyous, 90 students celebrated their successful graduation and a shared experience of up to 13 years.

Four Bluffton softball players received All-Northwest Conference honors in voting conducted by the league coaches recently.

Slugging senior outfielder Macy Schaadt and sophomore pitching ace Peyton Worcester earned first team All-NWC notice.

Schaadt led the Pirates in hitting and Worcester topped the squad in innings pitched, wins and strikeouts while also hitting well.

Pirate junior shortstop Greta Myers, one of the team’s top hitters and fielders, was named second team all-league.
