Mount Cory celebrates Sesquicentennial

Historical summary below festival events

The village of Mount Cory was established in 1872 and on Saturday, September 17, the community will be celebrate its Sesquicentennial.  A parade and festival will mark the 150th Anniversary of its founding.

2:00 p.m. - Sesquicentennial Parade (Legacy Coop to Village Park)
3:00-5:00 p.m. - Romick’s Railway rides
3:00-6:45 p.m. - Baskets-Prize Raffle in park Community Building
3:00-7:00 p.m.

Beaver volleyball and men's soccer recaps for Sept. 14

VOLLEYBALL VS. ONU
The Bluffton University volleyball team battled Ohio Northern in three tight sets, but the visiting Polar Bears walked away winners on Sept. 14. Bluffton fell to 5-4 on the season, while ONU improved to 6-2.

Freshman Jenna Woods (DeGraff/Riverside) was nearly unstoppable with eight kills against just one error for a .389 hitting percentage. Alysha Like (McComb) added eight hammers, while Kaylie Campbell (Camden/Preble Shawnee) smacked seven kills with a .300 hitting percentage.

Pirate golfers challenged Vikings at Colonial Hills

The Bluffton High School golf team split a Northwest Conference tri-match at Colonial Hills Golf Course Wednesday evening, September 14.

League-leading Leipsic won with 172 strokes, followed closely by the Pirates (179) and host Allen East (199).

Bluffton was led by Jaden Coonfare, who shot a 42. Eli Wenger carded a 44, while Evan Speicher registered a 46. Jacob Boisvert contributed a 47 to finish out the Pirate scorers.

Aidan Sponsler and Logan Combs each posted a round of 50.

Variations

While finding a lead-in, I was looking for idioms related to variations.  I was surprised to see that the bunny hop is considered a variation of the conga.  The bunny hop was demonstrated on television by Ray Anthony in 1952, as well as being on the Disney’s Dance Along in 2013.

Summary of Sept. 12 Bluffton Council meeting

With summer's end, the agenda facing Village Council has returned to its normal size. At the Monday, September 12 regular meeting at Bluffton Town Hall, there were six pieces of legislation to consider, five of which were in emergency "hurry up" mode. One prompted a lengthy executive session. Even though all six passed unanimously with little discussion, the meeting lasted nearly
two hours.

Pirate spikers ground T-Birds

LIMA⎯The visiting Bluffton High School volleyball team swept Lima Central Catholic in a non-league match Tuesday evening, September 12.

The Lady Pirates improved to 7-2 with the 25-12, 25-20, 25-17 triumph. LCC fell to 2-9 with the loss.
