Bluffton girls edged by Riverdale soccer

The Bluffton High School girls soccer team lost a defensive 1-0 battle to visiting Riverdale in a non-league match Saturday, September 10.

The close defeat dropped the Pirate record to 6-2, while Riverdale improved to 2-3-1 with the victory.

Falcon Maya Frey scored in the 10th minute to put the visitors ahead. Neither team was able to dent the net again over the final 70 minutes of play.

The Pirate girls directed 10 of their 12 shots on goal. The Falcons fired five of their nine shots on goal.

Bluffton boys double up Bearcats soccer

The Bluffton High School boys soccer squad beat visiting Spencerville 4-2 in the resumption of a suspended Northwest Conference match Saturday afternoon, September 10.

The Pirates led 1-0 when it was originally stopped by lightning August 29. Nolan Hoffman scored two goals to pace the victors.

Pirates Nick Lovett and Ethan Oglesbee netted one goal apiece. Kyle Basil came up with four saves in goal.

Ronald Earl Brauneller worked at Triplett Corp.

Ronald Earl Brauneller, 84, of Rawson passed away Friday, September 9, 2022 at Promedica Toledo Hospital following a short illness but not Covid. Ron was born on March 18, 1938 to Samuel and Rhoda (Marquart) Brauneller at Bluffton Hospital in Bluffton, Ohio.  

Ron attended Arlington Local School and then served his country in the United States Army in the Tank Armor Division entering in as Elvis left the building. In 1963, he started his career at Triplett Corporation, Bluffton as a tool and die machinist for 43 years until they no longer needed his service.

Memorial service for Lawrence Templin

A Memorial Service for Lawrence Templin will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 16, 2022 at the First Mennonite Church, Bluffton. 

Lawrence passed away on July 5, 2022.  Arrangements are under the direction of Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton.

The Bluffton High School football team won a wild shootout over visiting Spencerville 54-35 in the Northwest Conference lidlifter Friday, Sept. 9, at Harmon Field.

The decisive win lifted the Bluffton record to 2-2 (1-0 NWC), while Spencerville dropped to 1-3 (0-1 NWC) with the defeat.

Bluffton American Legion visit with Girl Scouts

Bluffton American Legion Post 382 recently made donations supporting nine different nonprofits. Legion member Denny Morrison delivered a check to Girl Scout Cadette troop 21165 and told them about the Legion and his experiences serving in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during the Vietnam War.
