Bluffton volleyball 3-0 over Arlington

The Bluffton High School volleyball team swept visiting Arlington in a non-league match Tuesday evening, September 6.

The Lady Pirates improved to 5-2 with the 25-23, 25-11, 25-22 sweep. Arlington fell to 3-3 after the loss.

  • Kendall Stackhouse led the victors with nine kills.
  • Ayla Grandey contributed eight kills, four aces and three blocks. 
  • Morgan Fruchey added five kills and three blocks.
  • Gracie Yarnell passed out 15 assists and came up with 14 digs while serving two aces.
  • Avery Talavinia mustered up a dozen digs.
  • Olivia Hobensack doled out five assists.
  • Olivia Siferd added three blocks.

OHSAA spring sports divisional breakdowns

COLUMBUS–On September 6, the Ohio High School Athletic Association announced the new divisional breakdowns for upcoming spring sports (2023). The OHSAA Board of Directors approved the new divisions during its meeting the prior week.

For the first time, the OHSAA’s spring sports will include boys volleyball. There will be two divisions of boys volleyball due to the spike in the number of schools now having a team, which has gone from 85 to almost 160 schools since the OHSAA announced earlier this year that it will sanction the sport.

Polishing the Mirror exhibit at university gallery

Bluffton University is hosting the art exhibit “Polishing the Mirror” through October 15 in the Grace Albrecht Gallery of Sauder Visual Arts Center. 

Referring to the Ram Dass text, “Polishing the Mirror” is a collection of recent works that engage the idea of creative practice and the ritual of artmaking as a path towards awareness of oneself and the world. 

The exhibit will feature works from faculty-artists Andreas Baumgartner ’08, Jim Fultz, T.R. Steiner and Philip Sugden.

Helping Ohio birds is subject of Sept. 6 gardeners meeting

Gardeners of the Bluffton Pandora Area will hold their first fall meeting at the Bluffton Public Library on September 6. 

The invitation: "Autumn is just beginning, we all know winter will be here before we know it. As you prepare your gardens for the upcoming cold season don’t forget about helping the local birds who must endure living outside in freezing temperatures with little available food.

Free chili cook-off in Jenera

  • Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 105 Allen St., Jenera

A free Chili Cook-off will be held at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and School parking lot on Saturday, September 10.

Guests may sample as many of the special chili recipes as they wish and vote for their favorite. The usual chili accompaniments will be available. 

Also scheduled is a bonfire with s'mores and hotdogs as well as cornhole games.
