Brent A. Kiene worked for Quality Welding and Fabrication

Brent A. Kiene, 38, passed away August 14, 2022, at Lima Memorial Hospital. Brent was born August 23, 1983 in Findlay to Robert and Jane (Kahle) Kiene.

Brent was a 2002 graduate of Bluffton High School. He also attended Apollo Career Center for Construction. He recently worked for Quality Welding and Fabrication in Lima. He was a lifetime member of the Cairo Sportsman’s Club and the NRA. Brent enjoyed farm related activities and construction. He especially loved trap shooting, fishing with his children and feeding livestock. Above all he enjoyed spending time with his children.

Allen County Public Health Internet and phone outages

Allen County Public Health is experiencing an Internet outage which is impacting many services, such as vital statistics (birth and death certificates), the printing of immunization records and scheduling appointments for immunizations.

Phone service is also affected, and the health department will not be able to receive phone calls during this outage. The service interruption is anticipated to continue through the close of business on Monday, August 29, 2022.

Demolition site on Jefferson Street

UPDATE: The owners of this property note that this is a demotion site and is dangerous for trespassers.

The former Bigelow Electronics building at 186 E Jefferson St. is being demolished "as is." A neighbor observed that the crew is going to need more dumpsters.

Bluffton gridders grounded by Rockets

The Bluffton High School football team lost at local rival Pandora-Gilboa 42-7 in a non-league contest Friday night, August 26.

The defeat dropped the Bluffton record to 1-1, while P-G improved to 1-1 with the decisive win. 

The Rockets scored the first touchdown on a seven-yard run to seize a 7-0 lead.

Pirate junior Gavin Bogart tallied a touchdown on a 36-yard run in the first period. Kyle Basil's point after kick tied it 7-7 heading to the second period.

Pirate girls soccer blanks Bath

The visiting Bluffton High School girls soccer team blanked Bath 2-0 Saturday afternoon.

Pirate Olivia Matthews scored the game's first goal with just over a minute left in the first half.

Sami Scoles netted the second goal in the 61st minutes to give the Pirate girls an insurance tally.

Efficient Bluffton put all eight of its shots on goal. Bath also got off eight shots, five of which were on goal.

Pirate keeper Julie Mehaffie stopped each one to come up with five saves.

Pirate boys 3rd at Elida Kick-off Classic

The Bluffton High boys soccer team scored late to beat Botkins 2-1 in the consolation match of the Elida Kick-off Classic tournament Saturday evening.

The Pirates improved to 1-2 with the win.

Freshman Nick Lovett scored for Bluffton at the 23:18 mark to put the Pirates ahead 1-0, and it stayed that way to halftime.

Botkins scored 3:27 into the second half to knot it up, 1-1.

Senior Nolan Hoffman then scored with 8:13 left to play to give the Pirates their first win.
