Bluffton hosts August 28 Discovery Day

A Back to School-themed Discovery Day with outdoor activities and the chance to earn tickets for a Bluffton Bucks prize drawing will take place in downtown Bluffton on Saturday, August 28. Everyone is encouraged to come in their spiritwear.

That same day, the Bluffton Lions Club will host the rescheduled Festival of Wheels on Main Street.

8-11:00 a.m., Bluffton Cars & Coffee, an informal gathering of car enthusiasts at 902 N. Main.

8:30 a.m.-noon, Farmers Market, vendors with local produce, plants, baked goods and other cottage foods, parking lot at 102 S. Main.

Bluffton University welcomes its new and returning students with banners of school pride — "We Are Beavers All." Fall semester classes at Bluffton University begin on August 30.

Music in the Alley to be held Wednesday, August 25

Music in the Alley, located at Roots by Strattons, will feature, The Usual Suspects.

The talented trio is back by popular demand to perform on Wednesday, August 25 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Alice Bucher worked at Triplett for 25 years

Alice E. Bucher, age 105, passed away on Monday, August 23, 2021 at 4:40 AM at Vancrest of Ada.

She was born on August 14, 1916 in Lima, Ohio to the late Harry W. and Mary Alice (Dinan) Thompson. On September 12, 1936 Alice married A. Dale Bucher and he preceded her in death on May 10, 1995.

Bluffton girls net team wins 2nd straight

The host Bluffton girls tennis team edged Defiance 3-2 Tuesday evening to even their season record.

The Lady Pirate netters improved to 2-2 with their second consecutive victory over a WBL foe.

Bluffton sophomore Brooke Camper defeated Defiance senior Renee Miller 6-2, 6-3 at first singles.

Pirate sophomore Caitlyn Couch also won in two sets at second singles over junior Mya Garcia 7-5, 6-0.

Pirate seniors Ellie Nickel and Libby Frazier combined to roll to a 6-0, 6-1 win at first doubles.

Bluffton boys win opener

The host Bluffton boys soccer team defeated Berlin Hiland 4-3 Saturday afternoon at Steinmetz Field.

Pirate Kaden Basil scored two goals to pace the victors. Justin Good and Bryan Zimmerman each netted a goal.

Bluffton put five of its 21 shots on goal. Pirate keeper Kyle Basil made six saves.

Bluffton (1-0) plays at the four-team Elida Classic tournament August 26/28 with the hosts, Botkins and Wauseon.
