University awards performing scholarships

Students from Wisconsin and Minnesota will study music at Bluffton University with the help of scholarships they earned as winners of Bluffton’s 2014 Performing Scholar Competition.

Kyle Johnson-Evers of Muskego, Wis., and Anna Cammarn of Albertville, Minn., have been awarded renewable scholarships valued at $80,000 and $72,000, respectively, over four years.

Bluffton University senior getting closer look at ministry

A Bluffton University senior from St. Marys, Ohio, is serving this summer in a Goshen, Ind., church as part of Mennonite Church USA’s Ministry Inquiry Program (MIP).

Participating in the program at Yellow Creek Mennonite Church is Shannon Thiebeau, a youth ministry major at Bluffton. Her home church is Zion Lutheran in St. Marys. 

Citizens National Bank named top performer by ICBA

ICBA Independent Banker magazine recognized Citizens National Bank of Bluffton as an ICBA Top Performer in its June issue. This recognition is based on Citizens National Bank’s 2013 year-end earnings and operational efficiencies.

Melvyn Arthur, former P-G superintendent, was a community leader

Melvyn C. Arthur, 88, died June 12, 2014, at 3:30 a.m. at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora.  Melvyn was born August 30, 1925 in West Elkton, Ohio, to Walter and Frieda (Burckhardt) Arthur who preceded him in death. On December 21, 1947 he married Mary Margaret Zimmerman Arthur and she survives.

Melvyn graduated from Alger High School. He served in the US Army 86th Blackhawk Infantry Division, where he attained the rank of Sgt/Maj. serving in both theatres of World War II. He later received his bachelor's degree from Ohio Northern University, Ada.

Property valued at $50,000 on Commerce Lane gifted to Village of Bluffton

The Village of Bluffton is the new owner of property between Taco Bell and Comfort Inn. The land was presented to the village as a gift valued at $50,000 from its owner, George Kentris of Findlay.

Richard Ramseyer, president of the Bluffton Pedestrian and Bike Pathway steering committee and a member of the Bluffton Lions Foundation, made the announcement during the June 13 Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce breakfast. Ramseyer handed the deed of the property on behalf of Kentris to Mitch Kingsley, who represented the village at the breakfast.
