Melina Meza, BHS May student of the month

She will attend Bluffton University in the fall

Melina Meza, a member of the BHS class of 2021, is the May Bluffton High School student of the month. 

Melina is involved in many activities including Orchestra, Show choir, Drama club, Flag corps, SADD club, Art club, National Honor Society, and her church youth group. 

Special awards she has received while in high school include the Orchestra Director's Award, Spanish I, II and III class awards, Sociology Class Award, Art Seminar class award and CP English 12 class award.

Janet Kingen retires from First National Bank

Janet Kingen, AVP, Loan Review Specialist at First National Bank retired from the bank on May 27. 

Kingen has 35 years of experience in banking. She previously worked for another financial institution in Indiana for 18 years. She began her career with First National Bank in 2004, starting as a Customer Service Representative before being promoted to Branch Manager. 

She also worked as the Senior Lending Assistant and Ag Loan Specialist. In January 2009, she was promoted to AVP.  Janet and her husband, Mark, live in Pandora and have two children and two grandchildren.

Complete cultural competencies training certification

Five university faculty and staff members

Five Bluffton University faculty and staff members recently completed the Building Cultural Competencies within Organizations certification program through Tiffin University.

The program is designed to help individuals work more effectively with people who are different from themselves and strengthen their awareness and understanding about diversity and inclusion through the lens of cultural intelligence.

Presbyterian gazebo dedication June 26

The Bluffton Presbyterian Church will dedicate its new gazebo at noon, Saturday, June 26, following the Farmers Market closing on that day.

The ceremony will include music by the Dave Sycks'  Bluffton Brass Quintet including some classical, some marches and some in-between. The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce will assist with a ribbon cutting.

Beaverdam Church of Christ barbecue June 19

Introducing the BHS class of 2021

The Bluffton High School graduating class of 2021 posed for a class picture during its commencement rehearsal on Friday morning. This year's commencement, originally planned for outdoors was moved to the high school gym due to weather. Watch the Icon next week for a list of future plans for class members. Commencement will be streamed live and the school will send out a link on Saturday.
