It only happens once in the lifetime of a community: a one-hundred and fifty year celebration. Put another way, it's a celebration of over 54,750 days of small-town living.
Bluffton sesquicentennial committee, headed by Beverly Amstutz, has been very hard at work for over one year. The committee recently revealed a daily schedule of plans for Bluffton's 150th celebration.
The Bluffton Icon connects its views to the most up-to-date 2010 U.S. census information about Bluffton, our school district and Richland Township.
For example, according to the census:
o Bluffton's 2010 population is 4,125 (2896 in 2000), for a 5.9 percent increase. The that population, 3,305 are adults and 820 are youth under 18.
o Bluffton has 1,522 housing units and 94 are vacant
.o The Bluffton school district has 2,552 housing units and 136 are vacant.
Richland Manor will sponsor a meal and informational meeting at the Bluffton Senior Center at noon, Tuesday, March 22, according to Tonya Meyer, Center director.
The meeting is to give updated information on Medicaid Benefits and Veteran's services. The meal and meeting are free and open to the public, but reservations are requested. Make your reservations by call the Bluffton Senior Center at 419-358-8971 or stopping by the Senior Center.
Effective immediately, The Inn at Ohio Northern University offers Third Thursday Tea at the Inn every third Thursday of the month from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Inn. The garden courtyard is open for seating (weather permitting).
Third Thursday Tea at the Inn will feature a specific tea and dessert but will include a variety of teas and pastries. So that The Inn may plan perfectly for your experience, reservations are requested.
Freshman Kayla Owens (Cincinnati/McAuley) was dominating on the mound for the Beavers in her first week of collegiate softball and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week.
The freshman pitcher tossed Bluffton's first no-hitter in two seasons, posting a five-inning 8-0 win over Beloit. She finished the week with a 1.24 earned run average and posted a 2-1 record in six appearances.
Owens threw 22.2 innings during the week with 15 strikeouts and held opponents to a .198 batting average.
