Humanizing martyrdom: “Martyrs Mirror” and the artwork of Jan Luyk

During a Nov. 1 Forum at Bluffton University, Dr. David Weaver-Zercher, professor of American religious history at Messiah College, took students to the early 16th century in the midst of the Protestant Reformation. At that time, Anabaptists were cruelly punished for their beliefs.

“Catholics and Protestants didn’t agree on much, but they did agree on killing Anabaptists so they couldn’t spread their ideas,” said Weaver-Zercher, author of “Martyrs Mirror: A Social History.”

The day the solar system came to Bluffton

The entire solar system came to Bluffton on Nov. 10. It even fit in the elementary multi-purpose room.

If you have an elementary child in your household, your child will gladly explain how this occurred.

If not, accept this explanation: COSI-on-Wheels brought it all to Bluffton with its Astounding Astronomy program.

And, elementary youth immersed themselves with science without even realizing it.

No mowing required on this turf

There's a new lawn in Bluffton and it requires no mowing. It's Bluffton Family Recreation's new turf. Installation is completed just in time for the winter indoor soccer season. Planning committee meets Nov. 14

To act on approval of final plat for Parkview Subdivision

The Village of Bluffton Planning Commission will meet on Monday, Nov. 14, at 5:30 p.m. in the third floor community room of the town hall. 

The meeting will include the application for approval of a final plat for the Parkview Subdivision, according to Jesse Blackburn, assistant to the village administrator.

Seven BHS soccer players gain Division 3 district honors

11 received academic honors

Several Bluffton High School soccer players received Division 3 district honors this week.

Two Bluffton players were selected to participate in the district senior all-star game:
Boys: Antony Kingsley, defender
Girls: Sarah Theisen, forward

Bluffton boys named to all-district teams were:
First team: Antony Kingsley, senior
First team: Tristan Smucker, junior
Second team: Josh Begg, senior
Honorable mention: Eli Bourassa, senior
