A Pirate afternoon

Bluffton elementary students were entertained by the Bluffton High School marching band on  Wednesday afternoon. And, of course, the Pirate mascot showed up to entertain the crowd. Watch the Icon for more photos of the performance and a video.

Girls' soccer: It's Bluffton 2 - Mohawk 0

Bluffton HIgh School girls' soccer team defeated Mohawk 2-0 on Oct. 20.

Abbey Parkins scored 2 goals for Bluffton.  First half assist from Ashley Augsburger to Parkins. 

Second half assist from Averey Rumer off a flicked header to Parkins who finished with a header to go up 2-0. 

Bluffton's goalkeeper, Jadyn Barhorst, recorded 8 saves in the shutout win, with the support of her defense.

Boys' soccer: BHS 7 New Knoxville 0 - sectional tourney

Bluffton boys' soccer team blanked New Knoxville 7-0 in the opening sectional tournament round played at BHS on Oct. 20.

Women's Soccer pitches 3-0 shutout of rival Jackets

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team bounced back from a heartbreaking 3-2 loss at HCAC-leading Franklin last Saturday with a convincing 3-0 shutout of Defiance College on a beautiful Tuesday, Oct. 20 at the Sears Complex. The Beavers improved to 7-8 on the season while evening their mark in the Heartland Conference at 3-3. Defiance dropped to 2-13 overall and 1-5 in the HCAC.

BFR fund drive seeks $50,000 for indoor soccer turf replacement

After 18 years and who-knows-how-many soccer matches, Bluffton Family Recreation says that it’s time to replace the original turf on its indoor soccer field.

Bluffton Family Recreation, located at 215 Snider Road, Bluffton, and offers year-around sports programming.

The replacement won’t be cheap. According to Joseph Beagle, BFR director, a much-needed turf replacement will cost $50,000.

“Turfs like ours have a lifetime of from 9 to 12 years. Ours is nearly twice that old,” he said.

MHCO thanks area pastors with appreciation banquet

Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio, MHCO, Bluffton, celebrated its annual pastor appreciation banquet at Mennonite Memorial Home on Oct. 15. 

This event enables elders to invite their pastor to their home for a meal and fellowship. Seventeen pastors and church staff sat around tables with 30 MMH.

The activities and leadership staff of MHCO served the meal.
