Bluffton Public Library announces September programs
Meetings for the Gardeners of Bluffton/Pandora Area begin at the library again this month. In September, their meeting will be on the 1st at 6:30pm.
The Dulcimers @ the Library continue to meet at the library on Tuesdays-- starting at 1pm. Come to any meeting to join.
Fall Storytime Registration begins August 25. Please remember, registration is required for each season of Storytime, and Storytime will officially start on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 10am (BPL is closed Monday, Sept. 7). Fall Storytime will take place on Mondays at 6:30pm and Tuesdays at 10am until October 27.
On Sept. 2, our monthly Noon Book Discussion group will meet to discuss the book Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. Members of this group must register to participate; if you have not registered yet, but would like to now, you can still be a part of the discussion of A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle on October 7! Registration for all library events can be made at our front desk, by phone (419-358-5016), or on our website.
Creative Crochet is a program for 3rd through 7th grade with Miss Esther in the Youth Room. On Wednesdays, Sept. 2, 9, and 16, all at 4pm, participants can learn basic stitches and unleash their creativity. Registration is required due to provided materials.
Yoga Fit(c) starts up again in September. This yoga-based exercise class is offered at Bluffton Public Library on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. by BFR Sports & Fitness. Please contact BFR to register.
BPL continues English as a Second Language classes, provided and facilitated by trained instructors volunteering their time. These classes meet at the library on Wednesdays at 6:30pm and feature beginning and intermediate English training for all ages. This opportunity is open to all community members looking to improve their English, and you do not need to attend every session to enroll. However, don’t forget to register at the front desk beforehand.
BPL’s Teen Volunteers are scheduled to meet on Sept. 3 at 4:30pm. For more information, contact [email protected].
Playgroup begins 10:30am on Sept. 4 and Sept. 18. Make a play date with a friend to come play at the library, or join us to make new friends! We will provide the space and toys. Registration is required.
On Saturdays, Sept. 5 and 19 at 10am stop by the library to read a book to a certified therapy dog. Teddy loves hearing stories or just getting a friendly cuddle. This program supports literacy, the humane treatment of animals, and healthy stress relief practices.
Please note: The library will be closed on Monday, Sept. 7 for Labor Day. All due dates have been adjusted accordingly.
On Sept. 10 and 24, both at 4pm, Brain Builders starts up again. Brain Builders is a group for children grades K through 5 who like to solve problems and experiment. Participants will use Legos and other materials to construct and create. Registration is required; limited spaces available.
Jammin' @ the Library will meet Sept. 14 and 28, both at 6pm. This ongoing program is an informal time for acoustic musicians to gather “Song Circle” style and share their love of music.
On Tuesdays, Sept. 15, 22, and 29, Chill Zone begins again. This is a time for teens and tweens (6th grade and up) to snack, talk, play games, watch movies, and make crafts.
The Friends of the Library Book Sale begins Sept. 23 at 5pm and continues daily during business hours until Saturday, September 26 at 1:30pm. Please note: the sale will shut down half an hour before library closing time each night.
Anglophenia/British Culture Days: Stop by the library on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 4pm for a spot of tea and a bit of cultured television for our High Tea with Period Drama Showing event. Then on Sept. 25 at 3:30pm, teens can acquaint themselves with all things Doctor Who during our Doctor Who Event!
Please note: we are open during our normal hours for the Fall Festival (from 9:30am to 2pm)! Stop in and see us while you enjoy the 12th annual Bluffton Fall Festival.
The Gluten and Food Allergy Support Group continues in September. This month’s meeting is Sept. 28 at 6pm on the lower level of the library. Come to any meeting to join!
Banned Book Week Sept. 27th through October 3. As a part of Banned Book Week, the movie A Wrinkle in Time will be shown at the library on October 1 at 3:30pm. This film is rated PG and will run until approximately 5:45pm.
Library Card Sign Up Month is September 2015. If you do not have a library card, but want to take advantage of the library’s free services and resources, bring a current I.D. with your current address on it and stop in at the front desk. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent with a current I.D. and proof of current address. Library card holders have access to all of our different types of materials, and also have the ability to request items utilizing the Inter-Library Loan service.
This month, the library’s display case will feature works by Maple Crest seniors, as instructed by Janette Reineke. Come check out some of the artwork created in Reineke’s “Young at H’Art” art classes!
