Surprise!

Two days ago surprise lillies appeared in Bluffton, as if overnight. They actually come up during three or four day - we just don't notice them until they surprise us.

Rain, rain, go away, come again some other day.

Mennonite Memorial Home has cancelled this evening's ice cream social Concert on the Lawn with the Pantasia band from Findlay High School.

The rain of last night, which is continuing today, is the culprit, according to Julie Stratton.

US Banker (also known as American Banker) magazine has listed Pandora Bancshares, Inc., the Pandora-based single-bank holding company of First National Bank of Pandora among the Top 200 community banks and thrifts in the United States with less than $2 billion of assets at Dec. 31, 2010.

Pandora ranked 186th nationally. First National Bank of Pandora is one of just 17 Ohio banks that made the annual Top 200 list published in the magazine's June 2011 edition.

If a picture is worth 1,000 words, the Bluffton Public Library's amateur photo exhibit is worth hundreds of thousands of words.

I honestly thought I was in a modern art photo gallery. That was my immediate impression when stepping into the Bluffton Public Library this week.

On exibit are over 100 photos by amatuer photographers. The Icon encourages viewers to visit this impressive exhibit.

The Bethel Church of Christ will host a Bluffton Block Party on Saturday, Aug. 13 from 5-8 p.m. at the Riley Creek Mercantile parking lot located at 246 Cherry St.

There will be live music, food and activities for the kids. The community is invited to bring lawn chairs and join us for an evening of family entertainment.

Mennonite Memorial Home, 410 W. Elm St., invites the public to its annual community "Concert on the Lawn", Sunday, Aug. 14, from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.

"Come and enjoy the Caribbean music of Pantasia steel drum band from Findlay High School. Since its inception in the spring of 1997, Pantasia has garnered an impressive reputation as an educational and entertaining instrumental music ensemble," said Julie Stratton of Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio.

Two seniors and a junior will lead the Bluffton High School girls tennis team that opens play against Shawnee at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Harmon Field courts.

Ashlin Gable and Kristi Geiser are seeking their fourth letters in leading a largely inexperienced team under new coach Jesse Sensenig. Both are three-year starters, while junior Emily Sprague is a two-year veteran.
