Chad Gundy of Flanagan, Ill.; Rachel Beining of Ottoville, May Day king, queen
Bluffton University’s annual May Day ceremony will take place at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 6, and will include the traditions of the crowning of a king and queen and the Maypole dance by first-year students.
Filling the roles of king and queen this year are seniors Chad Gundy of Flanagan, Ill., and Rachel Beining of Ottoville, Ohio.
Gundy is majoring in mathematics and information technology. He has been involved in many activities on campus including Camerata Singers and the Ultimate Frisbee Club. He has served as a resident adviser for three years. His parents are Gary ’84 and Carolyn (Stuckey ’85) Gundy.
Beining is majoring in food and nutrition. She is a member of the Bluffton University Nutrition Association (BUNA) and was a member of the varsity women’s basketball team for four years. Her parents are Jerry and Sue Beining.
First year students chosen to participate in the Maypole dance include:
∙ Wearing red are twins LaJohn Beasley, a business major and Leslie Beasley, a social work major from Columbus, Ohio. They are the children of Stephan and Carol Beasley.
∙ Wearing orange is Luke Ragsdale, a speech-language pathology and audiology major from Gap, Pa., and the son of Jeff and Tammy Ragsdale, and Hannah Testas, a worship arts major from Selma, Ala., and the daughter of Kimber Testas and Eddie Thomas.
∙ Wearing yellow is Brad Hardesty, a math and physics major from Martinsburg, Ohio, and the son of Jeff and Teresa Hardesty, and Alexis Cash, a speech-language pathology and audiology major from Gaines, Mich., and the daughter of Roy and Lori Cash.
∙ Wearing green is Jacob Regier, a public health major from Urbana, Ohio, and the son of Alan and Kari Regier, and Heather McConnaughey, a criminal justice major from Pioneer, Ohio, and the daughter of Craig and Dawn Borst.
∙ Wearing teal is Timothy Bender, a history and biblical and theology double major from Wellman, Iowa, and the son Donovan and Karen Bender, and Lydia Lugibihl, a food and nutrition major from Pandora, Ohio, and daughter of Jeff and Chrissy Lugibihl.
∙ Wearing blue is Liam Hoppe, a psychology major from Yale, Mich., and the son of Gregory and Heather Hoppe, and Hannah McBride, a music major from Port Clinton, Ohio, and the daughter of Ian and Melissa McBride.
∙ Wearing lilac is Andrew Sluss, an adolescent/young adult history education major from Houston, Ohio, and the son of David ’86 and Naomi (Thompson ’85) Sluss. He is accompanied by Emma Cobb, a food and nutrition and music double major from Archbold, Ohio, and the daughter of Adam and Jennifer Cobb.
∙ Wearing purple is Demetrius Terry, a social work major from Columbus, Ohio, and the son of Terrell and Suzette Lucas and Demetrius Terry, and Briar Pina Shisler, a music major from Bluffton, Ohio, and the daughter of Matthew and Denise Shisler.
