Scrap Artist Quilters meeting and Fresh Modern Fabrics open house

The next Bluffton Scrap Artist Quilters monthly meeting is Monday, May 6, at 7 p.m. at the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center, 132 N. Main, Bluffton.

The Big "80" Trout Derby at Buckeye Lake

The Bluffton Sportsmen’s Club will hold the 2024 Trout Derby on Sunday, May 5 at Buckeye Lake, accessible from Main St., Snyder Rd. and Spring St. The club member who catches Trout No. 1 on Derby Day between 2:00-4:00 p.m. will receive ½ of the jackpot plus $1,000. The prize is redeemable through the Sportsmen’s Club.

SCHS Spring Meeting is May 5

The Swiss Community Historical Society will hold its Spring Meeting on Sunday, May 5 at 2:00 p.m. in the Patio Room at Maple Crest. Gary Wetherill will give a presentation on the native people who lived in Ohio prior to settlers arriving in in the late 1700s.

Village committee meetings and Arbor Day celebration, April 27-May 13

The following meetings and an Arbor Day celebration have been scheduled by the Village of Bluffton. The meetings will be at the Bluffton Town Hall, unless noted.

Tree Commission (Arbor Day Celebration) on Saturday, April 27 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bluffton Community Pool

Pathway Committee on Thursday, May 2 at noon.

Ordinance Committee on Monday, May 6 at 5:00 p.m.

Village Council on Monday, May 13 at 7:00 p.m.

Perry Bush at BPL Friends of the Library Tea, April 25

CORRECTION: An additional book credit has been listed.

At this writing on Tuesday, just seven tickets are still available for the annual Friends of the Library Tea at Bluffton Public Library on Thursday, April 25 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. 

The guest speaker is local author Perry Bush, a professor of history who has written three books:

Dancing With the Kobzar, Two Kingdoms, Two Loyalties: Mennonite Pacifism in Modern America and Rust Belt Resistance: How a Small Community Took on Big Oil and Won, and Peace, Progress and the Professor: The Mennonite History of C. Henry Smith.

Tickets for the formal tea are $20.00; cash or check accepted.
