Rayon J. Boutwell, 94, of Bluffton died at 2:52 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2010, at the Hilty Memorial Home in Pandora. Mr. Boutwell was born Jan. 30, 1916, in Orange Township, Hancock County to Burley J. and Emma A. (Heldman) Boutwell. On Feb. 18, 1940, he married Alice Mae Amstutz and she preceded him in death on Aug. 24, 2000.
If you love garage sales, you'd better fill up the tank. There are more garage sales in the Bluffton school district on Thursday, Friday and Saturday than there are lights on the Ream holiday folk art display.
Okay, that's a figure of speech. There are dozens of garage sales in and around Bluffton this weekend. Thanks to the Friends of the Bluffton Library and several residents along the Lincoln Highway the gigantic garage sale weekend came into being.
First Mennonite Church has several special intergenerational Sunday school programs planned in August.
On Aug. 8 and Aug. 15 discussions will focus on the theme of Creation Care. Discussions center on the Mennonite Confession of Faith on the 8th and on the community gardens project in Lima on the 15th.
On Aug. 22 the youth who participated in a service trips to Honduras and Mississippi will share their experiences.
Then, following the worship service on Aug 29, will be an all-church picnic at the village park.
James F. Palte, 74, died Aug. 3, 2010, at the Richland Manor in Beaverdam. He was born Jan. 9, 1936, in Putnam County to Edwin and Marcellina Palte who preceded him in death. On Aug. 17, 1957, he married Doris Elaine Fett who survives.
Mr. Palte retired from Lord's Enterprises (Beaverdam Farmers Elevator) after 42 years of service. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bluffton. He was a 1955 graduate of Beaverdam High School.

Dorothy Louise Reichenbach, 84, of Pandora, died Aug. 3, 2010, at 5:10 p.m. at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora. She was born Aug. 27, 1925, to Sidney and Amy (Stainbrook) Agner in Putnam County. She married Herbert Reichenbach on June 19, 1943, and he survives.
She was a waitress at Buckeye Lunch, Bluffton and also worked at Triplett Corporation, Bluffton. She was a member of Pandora Missionary Church. She was a 1942 graduate of Pandora High School.
Bluffton Public Library will host a discussion of Beppe Severgnini's book "Ciao America" at Common Grounds Coffeehouse & Caf'e at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25.
Severgnini is an Italian journalist who has written a story about moving from Italy to live in the United States for one year. "Ciao America" is his humorous take on the American lifestyle.
Describe how you painted your name on the street when you were a senior. Where was it located?
I painted my name outside of Dan Rumer's office window on College Avenue. I wanted it to be something he could admire daily and opted for a gallon of eggshell white and a roller in lieu of the spray paint.
