There was a time in license plate land when the only vanity plates were owned by HAM radio operators. Today the HAM plate continues to stick out because of its unusual combination of letters and numbers. The Icon spotted this plate from Summit County in a Bluffton University parking lot.

Bluffton's next America Red Cross blood drive is from noon to 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 7, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 160 N. Spring St.

A Constitution Day Forum scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, at Bluffton University has been canceled.

On paper you'd like Crestview won the game: they had the ball 7 minutes longer than the Pirates, they had 62 offensive plays to Bluffton's 39, they had more first downs and more total offense.

Yet the scoreboard belonged to Bluffton. Traveling to Crestview on Sept. 17 for an NWC contest, Bluffton came home the winner 28-20. The win raises the Pirates to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the NWC.

Geo Cache fans now have all six coordinates in The Bluffton Icon Dash for Cache contest. The first person to find each cache will receive a prize. A gift card from a Bluffton business is in each cache.

The Oscar Velasquez historic Bluffton mural will have a formal dedication at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 25, at the mural. The event is one of several fall festival activities going on in Bluffton that day.

The dedication is open to the public. Velasquez will provide musical entertainment from the1950s following the dedication.

The mural, featuring many Bluffton residents, is on the wall of Forever In Stitches.

Riverdale

Bluffton girls' soccer team traveled to Riverdale Monday evening for a
match-up against the Lady Falcons. Both teams entered the field ready to play, however, Riverdale soon dominated the entire game.

Their first goal came just 9 minutes into the game which was quickly followed with 2 more goals in the next 2 minutes. Bluffton slowly began to crumble.

Here's the update on the Bluffton Hospital construction project for next week.

. Structural steel installation and framing of the two-story addition, which includes the new emergency department and other services, is approaching completion. Contractors are installing second floor decking. A "Topping Out" celebration is being planned in observance of the last piece of the structural steel being placed. The ceremony will be Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 10 a.m. The community is invited to attend.

Bluffton High School's girls' tennis team split a pair of matches this week, defeating Lima Senior 5-0 and losing to Ottawa-Glandorf 4-1. Lima Senior forfeited the doubles matches, while Liz Diller and Amanda Solmonson won singles matches in straight sets. Jess Hunter lost a three-set match at No. 1 singles.
