Anne Stratton will appraise area antiques from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 13, at the Bluffton Dari Freeze. Those attending are invited to bring two items per person for appraisals.
Bill Marchal said that everyone is invited to attend, even if you don't have an item to be appraised. "She is very entertaining," said Marchal.
Stratton does not appraise coins, weapons or collectibles. Her next visit to the Dari Freeze is from 5-7 p.m., Sept. 15.
An after-hours pool party fundraiser is planned for the Brockert/Mikesell family at the Bluffton Community Swimming Pool from 6 to 9 p.m., Sunday, July 17.
A silent auction is also part of the event.
Admission is $3 a person (sorry, pool passes not accepted). Donations are being accepted. Pizza will be available for sale. All proceeds from the event go to the Brockert/Mikesell families.
There's still time to register for the Saturday, July 23, second annual Bluffton American Legion golf scramble. The scramble, held at Bluffton Golf Club, has a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
This year the stakes increased as a 2008 Dodge Avenger SXT will be won by a golfer who records a hole-in-one at the event.
The cost to golf is $50 per person or $200 per team. The registration fee includes green fees, cart, door prizes and a steak dinner provided by Richland Manor.
Officials at Citizens National Bank announce the promotion of Angela Recker and Scott Sheipline to vice presidents of credit analysis.
Responsibilities for their positions include underwriting commercial and agricultural loan requests and analyzing financial information to assist with lending decisions.
Two significant Bluffton history books are available as reprints this summer from the Swiss Community Historical Society, according to Phil Kingsley, society president.
The books, "Historical Events of the Mennonite Settlement in Allen and Putnam Counties, Ohio," by P.B. Amstutz (1925 - with maps added to this reprinting by Keith Sommer), and "Life in the Bluffton and Pandora, Ohio Community, 1877-1910: Excerpts from the Bluffton News," by Edgar Schumacher (1997), are the two books.

There was a good bit of argument among the early settlers from Mennonite backgrounds as to proper clothing.
My grandmother, Caroline Riesen, married to Christian Baumgartner, liked a bit of lace at the wrists of her plain clothing. She may have added some colored braid to her daughters' aprons.
Dr. Daniel Kirk of Bluffton Foot and Ankle will hold a toenail clinic at the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center on North Main Street.
The clinic, open to area seniors, is at 10 a.m., Monday, July 25. Persons must call for appointments and there is a $10 charge. The Center's number is 419-358-8971.
Stephanie Theis of Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora, will offer instructions for the game of dominos this week at the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center.The event is at 10 a.m., Friday, July 18. Once the rules are explained, games will be played. The event is open to the public.
