July 2014

At mid-way point of 2014, Bluffton council will address several issues on Monday. Here's a summary of the village administrator's report to council. The report is part of the council agenda, in an attachment at the bottom of this story.

Paul F. Reichenbach died in his home on July 3, 2014.

He was born Jan. 26, 1928, in Pandora to the late Hiram and Edna (Zimmerman) Reichenbach.  On July 25, 1948, he married M. Jean (Burkholder) Reichenbach, who survives in Bluffton.

He was a 1945 graduate of Bluffton High School and served in the United States Army.  He worked in the lumber business for many years beginning at Steinman Brothers Lumber, then at Tuttle Lumber and finally as owner of Reichenbach Lumber in Bluffton.  In retirement Paul worked in real estate for a time.

Are your grandparents in this photo? The photo is from the decade of the 1940s and is part of the historical photo collection of the Bluffton Public Library.

The scene is from the Triplett Electrical Instrument Co., specifically  the former Readrite Meter Works (later known as Triplett plant 2) building. The building is no longer standing. It is now part of the parking lot north of Harmon Field on East College Avenue.

The Blufton Public Library has a busy July schedule. Here's what's what happening:

The library will be closed for Independence Day on July 4th and 5th.  Due dates will be adjusted accordingly.

Tutor Me Paperless— basic, one-on-one Tech/Computer classes—will return for Wednesdays in August.  Register by phone or in person for this service and specify what mode or feature of technology that you would like to discuss.

Storytime (Ages 3 to 5): Visit Storytime on Mondays at 6:30 p.m. or Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. (Starting July 7th)

Carolyn Sue (Spicer) Grismore, 65, of Pandora died on July 2, 2014 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center in Findlay.  She was born on May 25, 1949, to Robert and Dorothy Spicer in Lima.  She married Mark Grismore on Feb. 22, 1969 in Pandora.

Carol attended Pandora-Gilboa H.S. but graduated from Bath High School.  She was a member of St. John Mennonite Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mark, and her parents.

The YFC House Project will have an open house at the 160 S. Bentley Road (near I-75) property from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, July 6.

PHOTOS AND A FLYER SHOWING SPECS OF THE PROPERTY ARE IN ATTACHMENTS AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS STORY.

The open house enables the public see the final project, to thank those that have helped in the project, to let people know more about the ministry of Youth For Christ in the Bluffton / Pandora area and to let potential buyers see the property.

Todd Gratz, formerly of Bluffton, - brother of Kevin Gratz - and former editor of the Bluffton News read our story about Henry Huber and "knee high by the Fourth of July." (Click here to read that story.)

He took one of the iconic photos of Farmer Huber in 1972 and sent us a copy from his personal collection.

Thanks Todd.
