CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Bluffton University men’s basketball team traveled south down I-75 to take on the Mount St. Joseph University Lions on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016. The Beavers were unable to carry on their momentum from Saturday’s victory over Franklin, falling by a score of 76-59. The win for the Lions pushed their season tally to 12-6 (9-2 and first place in the HCAC), while Bluffton dipped to 9-9 (4-7 HCAC).

Performances are at Old City Prime, Upper Lounge, South Main Street, Lima. Reservations are required by calling 419-227-7463.

Shows are:
• now through Jan. 30 with doors open at 6 p.m., dinner 7 p.m., show 8 p.m.
• Jan 31 with doors open at noon, dinner 1 p.m., show 2 p.m.

Tickets are $50 each.

 

Bluffton University art faculty member Philip Sugden’s installation, A Page from the Manual on Dismantling God, is currently on view in the Elzay Gallery of Art at Ohio Northern University. Sugden is an assistant professor of art at Bluffton.

Some pieces within this exhibit are based on location drawings, which Sugden completed during 12 journeys in the Himalayas of India, Nepal and Tibet.

Living in a small town enables one to know and interact with lots of people, directly or indirectly.

Although I always felt I knew a lot of people here, I’ve come to appreciate the history of this town and realize that I have more to learn about Bluffton’s history.

My most recent interview took me to the Diller Law Office, where I met local attorney and long-time Bluffton resident, Sam Diller. He is a man of many stories and a vast knowledge of Bluffton, so I was glad to get the chance to meet with him.

Approximately 650 sophomores in Apollo Career Center’s 11-member district, including students from Bluffton HS, will be visiting Apollo during 411Blast, Friday, Jan. 29.

Isaac Tiessen, 88, died on Jan. 23, 2016, in Pandora, Ohio.

Survivors are his wife, Margaret (Wiens), of 51 years, a son, Robert (Ingrid), grandchildren Anna and Jacob, sister, Marta Froese (Jake, deceased), brother, Ernie Tiessen (Mary).

Predeceased by siblings Betty Derksen (late John), Henry Tiessen (late Louise), Margaret Cowan (late Morris), John Tiessen (late Caron). Survived by many nieces and nephews.

Sherrill Burkholder, 74 of Commerce, Michigan and formerly of Bluffton passed away Jan. 27, 2016, at his residence in Commerce.  Arrangements are incomplete at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton.

Bluffton Public Library wishes to thank the wonderful patrons, community members and businesses who sponsored, donated time and supplies, and supported the library during 2015 -- through your generosity we are able to offer successful programs which encourage education and community awareness.  We were able to bring fresh life to our library and programming through partnerships with a few fabulous community members and organizations.  

Parables, an eight-student worship ensemble from Goshen College, will perform at First Mennonite Church at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30. Parables combines music, original drama and personal stories to create an engaging worship experience designed to inspire, comfort and challenge.
