Next week is donations deadline for Feb. 4 Bingo

One of the most popular winter family-oriented activities in Bluffton is coming soon.

Bakery Bingo, hosted by the Bluffton PTO, takes place Saturday evening, Feb. 4, in the middle school cafetorium

But for the event to succeed, the PTO needs your assistance.

“One of the most popular aspects of bakery Bingo is the basket raffle, where chances to win themed gift baskets are sold through tickets,” says Crystal Camper, of the PTO.

July was busiest month for the department

Bluffton Fire Department responded to 101 fire calls in 2016, six lower than the previous year, according to Jon Kinn, fire chief.

A monthly report of fires by type of call is attached at the bottom of this story. July was the busiest month for the department as it had 13 calls. Of those, five were accidents.

The lowest month was January with only four calls.

The department responded to 30 fire alarms, 19 accidents and 15 mutual aid calls from other departments.

Several Bluffton connections part of Feb. 4 event

In a real slice of Americana, a small town and its connection to the Super Bowl will be celebrated during the “Made in Ada Wilson Football Festival” on Saturday, Feb. 4.

Bluffton High School girls' basketball team nearly doubled the score on Van Buren on Tuesday in a non-conference game.

BHS won 65 to 35, scoring 37 points in the first half.

The Dough Hook now offers 'Take 'n Bake' pizzas; On Jan. 28 stop in for free taste tests and drawing for free pizzas

There’s a new pizza shop in town and it’s throwing a free taste party on Saturday, Jan. 28.

Marlena Ballinger of The Dough Hook, 117 N. Main St., said the downtown shop is now offering pizza.

The pizzas are already available for customers and a launch party to introduce customers new the new item takes place starting at 8 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 28.

“Stop in from 8 to noon for free cooked samples of our Take ‘n Bake Pizzas,” she said. “We will also have plenty of frozen pizzas on hand for customers to purchase during the party.”

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Bluffton University's Rachel Beining (Ottoville) averaged a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds per game as the Beavers went 3-0 with a home win over Franklin and road victories at Manchester and Hanover last week. Beining was the last Bluffton women's basketball player to earn HCAC POTW honors (December 14, 2015).

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Bluffton University’s D'Nae Reese (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) re-set her own Bluffton University record in the weight throw and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week following her great performance at the Northwest Ohio Invitational on Friday, Jan. 13.

Offering classes for area 3- and 4-year-olds

Bluffton Community Preschool, one of the many important non-profit organizations in Bluffton, will soon have a new home.

The preschool is currently located in First United Methodist Church. Due to the church's need for additional classroom space, this fall the preschool went in search of a new home.

That new home, beginning next school year, is Bluffton Presbyterian Church. Members of the preschool board recently signed a lease with the church.

Links to over 70 area businesses - all Icon advertisers - are included

The Bluffton Icon recently added a new feature for advertisers and viewers.

The Icon Advertiser Index now includes links to advertiser Facebooks. When the Index was first created website links and phone numbers were included. With the popularity of Facebook pages, those are now added.

The Bluffton Icon has over 70 advertisers listed in its Index. The Index is one of the most viewed features on the website, simply because it is the only comprehensive listing of Bluffton area businesses with phone numbers, website links and now Facebook links.
