Bluffton got a huge game from their starting backcourt in a 62-52 road win at Bath. Juniors Jared Piercefield scored 21 points and Luke Denecker 19 for the Pirates.
The Bluffton University women's basketball team lost to a tough Hanover Panther squad by the score of 73-50 on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018. The setback dropped the Beavers to 2-6 on the year (1-2 HCAC), while Hanover improved to 5-3 (2-1 HCAC).
The Bluffton University men's basketball team won a nail-biter, 63-60, after trailing by as many as 16 points in the first half against the Hanover College Panthers on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018. Freshman Jameel Cosby (Springfield/Kenton Ridge) hit a clutch free throw with six tenths of a second left in regulation that sealed the victory when Hanover's 80-footer at the buzzer drew iron. Bluffton improved to 6-2 overall and 2-1 in the Heartland Conference, while Hanover fell to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in the HCAC.
The Bluffton Swim Club is for high school aged swimmers from high schools in the surrounding area. This is the first season for the group and they practice at the Putnam County YMCA.
The inaugural Bluffton Swim Club delivered a strong start to their season at a tri-meet versus Kenton and VanWert high school swim teams on Thursday, Dec. 6, at Kenton. As a team, they finished overall in second place with the men finishing in third and the women in second.
The team’s first event of the night was the girl’s 200 meter medley relay with Ellie Hoffman, Joscelin Reineke, Maria Spallinger and Julia Smallcombe. They tied for first with Van Wert’s team with a time of 2:15:60.

The National Headache Foundation reports that 1 in 5 U.S. children ages 5 to 17 are prone to headaches. Fifteen percent of those who are prone have headaches labeled as tension and five percent are diagnosed as migraine.

Bluffton Family Recreation’s winter youth and adult program schedule covering January through the end of March was announced today by Daniel Tinch, BFR executive director.
Adult programs include soccer, coed volleyball, pickleball, basketball, coed indoor softball and a coed softball tournament. Tournaments involving tennis and pickleball will be announced later.
