I shopped at The Dough Hook...and purchased some Bluffton chamber gift certificates

In the spirit of this year’s Blaze of Lights, the Icon offers viewers a daily local gift idea based upon the 12 Days of Christmas theme. There’s no need to shop out of town or on the internet for Christmas gifts this year.

On the fourth day of Christmas I shopped at...

The Dough Hook, 117 N. Main St.
Here you'll find all sorts of Christmas gifts, including gift cards, meat packages, cases of canned meat, candy and cookie baking kits.

And then I purchased some Blufton chamber gift certificates.

Throughout the past year, Allen County MOVESafe has been working to educate the community on how motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians can share the road safely, according to Shelly Miller, health educator, Allen County.

A media campaign took place during the spring and summer and some educational materials have been distributed throughout the community, along with some bike lights and other safety materials.

To raise funds for local charities

PromoHits, 141 N. Main St., Bluffton, has committed to donating 5% of its total product sales from January-June 2019 to four local charities, according to Melinda Bowden, owner.

The initiative, titled PromoCares, provides the opportunity for local businesses that purchase products from PromoHits to designate which of the four charities they’d like their purchase to support. There is no extra cost to the business – the donations will solely come from profits PromoHits gains from the sale of its products.

It’s been awhile since Pirate fans stormed the court but they rightfully did so after Bluffton toppled reigning Northwest Conference champion Crestview by a 43-41 score.

Luke Denecker dropped in 19 points, including four three pointers to lead the Pirate offense.  Denecker also matched up on defense for about half the game with Crestview’s leading scorer, Javin Etzler.

The Bluffton University women's basketball team defeated Franklin College in dominating fashion as they coasted to a 69-52 victory on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018. The win pushed the Beavers to 3-6 on the season (2-2 in HCAC). Franklin dropped to 2-6 on the year (1-3 in HCAC).

The first quarter was a back-and-forth battle between the Beavers and the Grizzlies as the teams went bucket for bucket with the score being 16-14 in favor of Bluffton at the end of period one. The Beavers had six contributors to the scoring column as it was a balanced effort from the start.
