Bluffton Family Recreation’s January programming offers many opportunities for youth and adults, according to Daniel Tinch, BFR executive director.

Youth programs
Winter Session 3 includes youth classes from Jan. 4 to Jan. 31.
Those include 14 opportunities for youth ranging from soccer, basketball, Karate (for the entire family), Ninjas, tennis, tumbling, “mad” scientist and homeschool recreation.
English Lutheran Church, 111 Grove St., will hold a New Year's Eve service, according to Rev. Kevin Mohr, pastor.
The informal service takes place at 11:30 p.m. and concludes with all attending helping to ring the church bell at midnight to ring in the new year.
The service includes hymns, prayers and readings.
"You are invited to join the people of English Lutheran Church tonight, Dec. 31, New Year's Eve, for an informal service of thanking God for the year past, and commending ourselves to God in the new year," said Rev. Mohr.
Bluffton Public Library's Winter Book Challenge returns!
The library announced the Winter Reading Program for children, teens, and adults starts once again in January. It is one of many programs in January. The entire month's schedule follows:
Pick up a Winter Reading Bookmark at the library, or download and print it from the library's website. Then complete five or more challenges during the months of January through March to receive a prize. At this time, you may also enter a drawing to win a larger prize.
If your recyling is not yet picked up, don't fret. The truck is running late due to mechanical issues, according to Jesse Blackburn, village administrator.
The annual New Year's Eve caroling, featuring the traditional Swiss-German carols composed in this community, will start at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31, at Maple Crest Senior Living Village on Augsburger Road, Bluffton.
Please note the earlier time this year. Music will be provided. Bring your friends and relatives to take part in this joyful tradition.
New Year's Eve this year will once again find the residents of Maple Crest Senior Living Village in Bluffton enjoying the long-standing tradition of New Year's serenading.
Jesse Blackburn, village administrator, issued the following announcement: "The Village of Bluffton will have a special council meeting on Monday, Dec. 30, at 8 p.m. on the third floor of the town hall to pass necessary legislation by emergency before Jan. 1, 2020."

BLUFFTON - Host Bluffton ran out to a double-digit halftime lead and cruised to a 55-41 win over Arcadia in non-conference girls basketball action Saturday afternoon.
Bluffton led by four early and stretched the lead to 31-16 at halftime with a 20-9 second quarter. The Lady Redskins edged the Pirate girls 25-24 after intermission, but the outcome was all but decided by then.
The Lady Pirates improved to 8-1 overall behind their eighth consecutive victory. Meanwhile, Arcadia fell to 6-3 with the defeat.

The Bluffton University men's basketball team played host to Otterbein College in the annual McDonald's of Bluffton Holiday Classic opener on Saturday, Dec. 28.
It would be all Beavers from the get go as the home team never trailed in the contest which culminated in a 70-50 victory for the good guys.

BLUFFTON - Tournament host Bluffton got off to an early lead and held on to defeat Arlington 54-46 in the finals of its annual McDonald's Holiday Invitational Saturday night.
Senior Luke Denecker led the victors with 23 points in the championship game to win tournament MVP honors. He sank 11 of 12 free throws and two three-point goals to pace the victors.
Senior Jared Piercefield contributed 16 points, while classmate Mason Soper added nine markers.
