Here's Bluffton from the air in a photo taken in 1966.

As a reference point, the Bluffton elementary building is near the center of the photo, more closely to 11 o'clock.

Main Street is horozontal midway in the photo.

The Bluffton College old baseball diamond is on the top left corner.

Perhaps the biggest change is that the municipal parking lot behind CVS Pharmacy does not yet exist. And several structures near the bottom of the photo show buildings on Vance Street  no longer standing.

Would you believe it if we said it was once a railroad siding?

Check the photos at the bottom -
Any guesses why the walkway between Ten Thousand Villages and Shannon Theatre narrows half way back to the parking lot behind the buildings?

You probably aren’t even aware of the narrowing. But, there’s a reason why it does, and you may find it difficult to believe.

Once upon a time there was a railroad siding in that alley.

What? A railroad siding on Main Street? Yes. Here's the story.

Recently, I was catching up on what’s happening in my hometown of Bluffton
and found Fred Steiner’s interesting piece on Riley Creek.

Thank you, Fred, for sharing some of Bluffton’s past.

I do have to comment on his statement “Swimming in Riley Creek is no doubt
something that never interested you.” This brought back a flood of memories
about my adventures in and along Riley Creek.

He's president of Bluffton’s Multicultural Student Organization

In his final year at Bluffton University, Darian Greeley’s goal is to give back. The senior criminal justice major from Detroit, Mich., was recently named president of Bluffton’s Multicultural Student Organization.

“I’m a big believer in giving back to the community,” said Greeley. “We have goals for the group to get out and do more community work. We’re a family, and I want everybody to see that before I leave.”

Greeley’s goal as the MSO leader is also in line with his long-term professional goals.

Thumb pain is a common complaint that patients have in our orthopedic clinic. It is most common near the wrist at the “snuffbox” area or basilar region of the thumb. This pain can be very debilitating because it affects all aspects of daily living that require using the hand for grip.
