A senior breakfast returns tomorrow, according to Greg Denecker, Bluffton school superintendent.

Bluffton schools will host a senior citizen breakfast performance with the BHS jazz band at 8:30 a.m., Friday, May 14, in the Middle School cafetorium.

Bluffton school students are not in session on Friday.

And, end date for health orders

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine on Wednesday announced a series of statewide drawings to provide incentives to Ohioans to get a COVID-19 vaccination.

With wide access to the life-saving vaccine to help Ohioans safe, Governor DeWine also announced that most COVID-19 health orders would be removed on June 2nd. DeWine made the announcements during a statewide address to Ohioans Wednesday evening.

“For a year, Ohioans have made sacrifices to save lives and keep our state moving forward.  What you have done has really worked," he said.

MILLER CITY - Visiting Bluffton crushed Miller City 16-2 in a non-league softball contest Wednesday evening.

The Lady Pirates improved to 8-13 with the five-inning, run rule-shortened victory. 

The Pirate girls broke on top with four runs in the top of the first inning. They added three scores in the second for a 7-0 lead.

Riley Busch cranked a two-run homer, her fourth longball of the season, in the top of the second frame.

MC tallied both of its runs in the home fourth on a two-run homer by Knueven.

Nearly 200 students celebrated Bluffton University graduation

The achievements of Bluffton University’s class of 2021 were celebrated Saturday, May 8, during an in-person Commencement at Salzman Stadium.

Special this year, graduates crossed the stage wearing purple stoles. The unique memento was designed as a testament to their resilience during the past year and a half and their commitment to completing their education through the COVID-19 pandemic. 

From Marathon LPGA Classic presented by Dana

Hilty Preschool and Child Care Center, Pandora, is the recipient of an $8,760 grant to purchase a new smart board, HEPA air filters, new cots and new bikes.

The grant is from the Marathon LPGA Classic presented by Dana, which will hold a golf tournament July 5-11 at Highland Meadows Golf Club, Sylvania.

The Hilty Preschool and Child Care Center was encouraged by parents who work at Marathon to apply for funding.

Carol J. Vermillion, 88, of Gibsonburg, Ohio, died Monday, May 10, 2021, at Toledo Hospital. She was born Jan. 28, 1933, in Bluffton, Ohio, the daughter of Leland and Ruth (Andrews) Sechler. 

Carol owned and operated Village Hair Fashions in Gibsonburg for 43 years.

Three days of youth soccer scheduled

Bluffton becomes the soccer capital of northwestern Ohio this weekend.

Hundreds of soccer fans flock to Bluffton village park and Citizens National soccer fields this weekend as the Bluffton Soccer Association Cup tournament takes place Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 14-15-16.

Friday’s games are from 4 to 9 p.m., Saturday’s from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Sunday’s from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., according to Dan Lee, tournament director.

Wyandot commissioners reject petition to vacate 5 roads

The Ohio Department of Transportation’s (ODOT) petition to vacate five roads along the U.S. 23 corridor south of the city of Upper Sandusky was rejected by the Wyandot County commissioners. The move puts to rest a project which would have improved the safety of six intersections along U.S. 23 in Wyandot County.

In response to the petition, the Wyandot County commissioners held a public viewing last week at the Wyandot County Courthouse. More than 30 community members and business representatives attended to discuss the project’s merits.

10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at HealthWise Pharmacy

With the FDA approving Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for children age 12 and older, Ohio Northern University will be offering a special vaccination clinic for adolescents.

The clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, at ONU HealthWise Pharmacy, 511 W. Lincoln Ave., Ada.

Children between the ages of 12 and 17, along with adults who live in Hardin County and surrounding counties, are welcome to receive the Pfizer vaccine at ONU’s Saturday clinic.

Adults will also have the option of receiving the Johnson & Johnson brand vaccine.
