The “Usual Suspects” acoustic guitar and vocal trio of Bob Beer, Charlie Saylor, and Eric Shellenbarger grew out of jam sessions held at Bluffton Public Library in pre-COVID days. More recently the group plus musical friends have played song circle-style at the Bluffton Senior Center at 2:30 p.m. on first and third Wednesdays. Some folks just come to listen and throw in a request or two. The next session is December 22.
Navneet Patti, MD, a physician who specializes in adult and child psychiatry, recently joined the Psychiatric Center of Northwest Ohio team at Caughman Health Center, a division of Blanchard Valley Health System.
Dr. Patti completed medical school at Guru Gobind Medical College in Faridkot, India. She completed her adult psychiatry residency at Detroit Medical Center, Wayne State University and her child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the University of Toledo Medical Center.
Bluffton senior Dana Shoulders II (Mansfield/Lexington) capped off his five years at Bluffton by being named All-Region by D3football.com following the 2021 fall campaign. He was a third team selection at defensive tackle. Shoulders is the first All-Region honoree since 2018 but his selection marks the eighth time a Bluffton defensive lineman has been named D3football.com since 2010! Isaac Zickefoose was a three-time honoree, while Ryan Aelker and Justin Crosier both took home all-region twice.
Bluffton Family Recreation can help you take a break and clear your mind--with a Meditation class at 10 a.m. or 7 p.m. on December 9. The class is part of the center's "12 Days of Christmas" health and fitness promotion.
The traveling trophy for best holiday business decorations in downtown Bluffton has been awarded to Spectrum Salon, 422 N. Main St. Owner Mandy Kinn received the award from Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce board member Lauren Beasley of Citizens National Bank.
Blanchard Valley Health System (BVHS) will host a special Facebook Live at noon on Wednesday, December 15. The topic will be “The Impact of the Rising COVID-19 Cases Within Our Community.”
Serving as hosts of the event will be BVHS President & CEO Myron Lewis, William Kose, MD, vice president of special projects and Renee Smith, MD, chief medical officer.
The event will be streamed on the health system’s Facebook page, facebook.com/BlanchardValleyHealthSystem/. Community members can “like” the corporate Facebook account of BVHS and visit the page to watch live.
The Etcetera Shop, 327 N Main, has issued a seriously good calendar for serious shoppers.
The nonprofit thrift store is primarily staffed by volunteers and has limited hours. On Monday, Wednsday and Friday, the store is open from 1-5 p.m. Donations are received at the back entrance on 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays.
The shop will be closed for both shopping and donations from December 23-31.
Bluffton Bread Company online sales are open for the upcoming holidays. From developing and standardizing recipes to streamlining the online shopping cart, Bluffton University students are gaining hand-on learning experiences with the Bluffton Bread Company (BBC).

Literally packed to the brim with cheese, this loaf is surrounded by a crust of parmesan and cheddar. The December 10 Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce breakfast meeting will be held at Southgate Lanes, 9700 N. Dixie Hwy, featuring a program by Southgate Lanes and Bluffton Family Recreation.
The breakfast buffet will open at 7 a.m., followed by the meeting at 7:30 a.m.
