BLUFFTON __ The Bluffton High School volleyball team defeated visiting Defiance Ayersville in straight sets during a non-league match Thursday evening.

The Pirates swept Ayersville 25-13, 25-16, 25-21.

The convincing home win improved the Pirate record to 6-1 this season. The Pilots drop to 4-2 after the loss.

Kendall Stackhouse paced the Bluffton hitters with 11 kills. 

Ayla Grandey and Libby Hocanson each knocked down nine kills. Hocanson added a block.

BLUFFTON __The Bluffton High School girls tennis team lost 5-0 to visiting Wapakoneta Wednesday evening.

Wapakoneta improved to 4-3 with the win.

Pirate Rory Youngpeter lost at first singles to Redskin Liberty Jolly in a very tight three-set battle 7-5, 5-7, 7-6.

Bluffton’s Brooklyn Moser fell at second singles to Wapak’s Kate Eley 6-1, 6-1.

At third singles, Hannah Nieman was defeated by Redskin Brooklyn Mowery 6-2, 6-0.

BLUFFTON __ The Bluffton High School boys soccer team shut out visiting Spencerville 4-0 in their Northwest Conference opener on Thursday, August 29, at Steinmetz Field.

Levi Antrim and Jackson Brauen each scored two goals to pace the Pirates to their first victory.

Bluffton’s Ethan Blount passed out a pair of assists. Landon Sehlhorst added one assist.

The six-time defending league champion Pirates improved to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the NWC with the win.

Residents of Bluffton are of two minds over whether roosters make good neighbors. The Village of Bluffton Administrator and legal counsel would like to see conflicts over roosters removed from their to-do lists. However, the Ordinance Committee isn’t ready to make a unified recommendation and will ask Council to discuss and vote on the issue, possibly as soon as the next meeting on September 9 (7:00 p.m., 3rd floor Bluffton Town Hall).

Bluffton Senior Center is coordinating a 12-day trip to Hawaiian Paradise, March 6-17, 2025.

Christopher Brian Bridges (aka Ludacris) is a famous rap artist who has a 2017 song titled Vitamin D.  One of the lines in his lyrics is “You missing so many key nutrients in your life.”

The Board of Commissioners of the Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District will hold a Special Board meeting, on Friday, Aug. 30 at 9:00 a.m. at the Park Conference  Room. The Park District Office is located at 1682 Slabtown Rd., Lima, OH 45801.

The month of September will be a busy one for the Bluffton Lions. Their August newsletter lists the following activities:

September 3 - Club meeting at Town Hall, 6:30 p.m.

September 3 -County Line Pathway Dedication, 4:00 p.m. at Bluffton Child Development Center. Public invited. 

September 5 - 7: USA/Canada forum in Louisville, KY.

September 9-19 - Eye screening for children at local schools and daycares. Contact Lion Barbara Plaugher to assist with this program.

LIMA __ During the 10 Million Steps to Prevent Falls campaign, the Ohio Department of Aging (ODA) is asking community partners to host local walking groups and events to raise awareness of older adult falls.

BLUFFTON __ The Bluffton High School golf team defeated visiting Carey in a dual match Wednesday, August 28, at the Bluffton Golf Club.

The Pirates won the match by 17 strokes, 171-188.

Pirates Evan Speicher and Nick Lovett tied for match medalist honors as each fired a nine-hole score of 41. Lovett birdied the final hole to force the tie.

Teammate Ethan Fifer was right behind the duo, carding a 42 to finish third in the field of 12 golfers. Grady Coonfare ended up as the fourth Pirate scorer as he registered a 47.
