An excellent fisherman

A twilight hour at Buckeye Lake was filled with watching Canada geese, Mallard ducks, and a white domestic duck known by locals as George. Until they were all upstaged by a Great Blue Heron, who was putting a fishing show. We watched him catch two and miss one, shaking out his wings and feathers between each dart.

Bluffton president selected for Presidential Renewal Program

Dr. Jane Wood, president of Bluffton University, is one of 15 college presidents selected for The Council of Independent Colleges’ Presidential Renewal Program.

The year-long program includes webinars and seminars designed to help college presidents sustain their leadership momentum through extensive reading, engaged discussions and the sharing of personal narratives.

“Members of the Bluffton University Board of Trustees are very pleased and thankful that President Wood was selected for this wonderful opportunity,” said Cheryl Hacker ’81, board chair. “We are grateful for President Wood’s leadership over the past five years. We know this kind of leadership takes a relentless drive. The board will look forward to hearing about the insights she will gain from CIC’s program.”

How to nominate Citizen of the Year candidates

The Bluffton Lions Club is seeking nominees for the 2022 Citizen of the Year Award. The award was established in 1981 to honor a person, couple, or person representing a group, who has selflessly given time, effort, and talent for the benefit of those in the Bluffton area, and whose dedication and achievements have profoundly improved the quality of life of the people in this area. The nominee may be living or deceased within the last year. This year’s winner will be feted at a banquet on April 6, 2023. Anyone interested in making a nomination may obtain an application by contacting John Ri

Pirates Blackburn, Rehm place 2nd at wrestling sectional

VAN BUREN – Several Bluffton High School grapplers finished in the top four of their individual weight brackets at the Div. III wrestling sectionals in Van Buren Saturday, February 25.

The Pirates finished a solid fifth at the 13-team competition. Liberty-Benton won the sectional team title, followed by Elmwood and Carey.

Apollo Board meeting includes approval of levy amounts

The 7:00 p.m. Regular Meeting of the Apollo Board of Education on February 27, 2023 will include action on amounts to be derived from levies. The agenda is attached.

Second Lenten Service at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran

Pastor Bob Krueger from Immanuel Lutheran Church, Findlay, will be the guest pastor for the Wednesday evening Lenten service at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jenera. Pastor Krueger will tell how "Jesus' Final Steps Led to a Dinner Celebration" based on John 12:1-11.
