ONU ART & DESIGN ON LINKEDIN__Congratulations to Ohio Northern University professors Luke Sheets, professor of art & design, and Bruce Chesser, professor emeritus of art & design, for having work selected to the Ohio Designer Craftsmen “Best of 2025” exhibition.

The “Best of 2025” exhibition showcases work from around the state. The juror, Michele Tuegel, selected 81 works from almost 400 entries, highlighting contemporary functional, sculptural, and decorative approaches in various media. The exhibition is on view at the Ohio Craft Museum from May 5 to July 5, 2025.

Prof. Chesser specializes in contemporary interpretations of traditional functional ceramics. He is a retired professor of art at Ohio Northern where he taught ceramics for over 30 years. He also served as chair of the department of art & design for 12 years. Previously, he taught at Ohio University, Athens. He holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in fine arts from OU and has participated in more than 100 juried, invitational and one-person art shows. Prof. Chesser also has conducted numerous workshops and lectures on salt-glazing and raku pottery.

Bluffton EMS reports that in April 2025 the department had a total of 67 calls including the following:

  • 36 Medical
  • 12 Transports
  • 3 MVA
  • 12 Fire Calls
  • 4 Mutual Aid calls

During the month of April, 46 patients were transported.

For the year to date, Bluffton EMS has responded to 266 calls for service.

MAY 7 MEDIA RELEASE__Becca Ludwig, a senior at Cory Rawson High School, signed her letter of intent to attend The Ohio State University and study agricultural communication during the 97th Annual Ohio FFA Convention. She will enroll as a student in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences and the Department of Agricultural Communication, Education, and Leadership this fall.

MAY 7 MEDIA RELEASE__First National Bank is proud to announce the promotion of Trevor Kline to the position of Associate Commercial Lender. In his new role, Kline will be  responsible for analyzing, assessing, and managing real estate, business, agricultural, and consumer credit loans and lines of credit.

DOLA – The visiting Bluffton High School girls softball team lost 6-2 to Hardin Northern Wednesday evening, May 7.

The Polar Bear girls scored five big runs in the third inning to overcome a 1-0 deficit and win. 

Bluffton tallied a run in the top of the first and another in the fifth.

The Pirate girls dropped to 2-11 overall with the loss. HN improved to 14-4 after the win.
