In March of 1972, Todd Rundgren released one of his more popular songs titled I Saw the Light. As a solo artist, he was best known as a progressive rocker. Rundgren was also known as a prolific songwriter and producer. I Saw the Light has been covered for over 4 decades by various artists. Many may not realize he wrote the musical score for the 911 movie titled A Face to a Name. He was a pioneer in using the internet to distribute music in the 1990s.
How does light positively impact our health?
Light therapy can be an important treatment for those who may develop seasonal affective disorder (SAD) especially in the winter months. With shorter days and less light during the daytime, it is possible to develop depression during these months known as seasonal affective disorder. Signs and symptoms of SAD can include feeling sad, sluggish, listless, sleeping more than usual with difficulty waking up, craving sweets and carbohydrates, and difficulties concentrating. The Bluffton Police Department responded to our inquiry with the following information regarding a recent dog attack in Bluffton.
On December 6, 2024 at approximately 2:30 p.m., officers from the Bluffton Police Department responded to a N. Lawn Ave residence where a female reported being chased back into her house by a large dog. After taking this complaint, officers were able to determine that the dog was back on its property and officers secured the loose gate the dog escaped from. The Allen County Dog Warden was contacted about this complaint and was investigating the matter.
At approximately 4:15 p.m. on the same date, officers were made aware of another incident involving the same dog. A female reported she was walking in the area of Spring St. and Washington St. and was knocked down from behind by a large dog and had to seek medical attention for injuries sustained in the incident. Officers investigated the matter and were able to determine that the dog in question was the same dog as the earlier complaint, and both incidents happened at the same time. This complaint was also forwarded to the Allen County Dog Warden’s Office for further investigation.
Warden Julie Shellhammer responded to the Icon's inquiry that “Deputy Marando did investigate the incident in Bluffton. The dog you are asking about is not and has not been in custody of our office. The owner may choose to surrender the dog but they are not required to. READ MORE

If you timed it just right, during the Christmas Open House at the Schumacher Homestead, 8350 Bixel Rd., you could see the Swiss Community Historical Society's grounds, farmhouse and Heritage Center by moonlight and candlelight.
Throughout the two-day event on December 7-8 there were treats for your tastebuds in the summer kitchen and treats for your ears in the stove room (parlor), as well as docents throughout the facilities to tell you all about the Schumacher family and others in the Swiss Settlement during the 19th century. There were also treats for your nose: on arriving you could smell wood smoke from two fireplaces. The Heritage Center, which will soon have its wood floors finished, provided the fresh scent of new lumber.

The Bluffton Council held a regular meeting on December 9, which was conducted by Mayor Rich Johnson with all members present.
BILLS
Prior to Council approving the payment of bills, Council member Ben Stahl asked for information on the results of the audit of water meter reading and billing by Raybern Utility Solutions ($8,156). Assistant Village Administrator Bryan Lloyd reported that no individual reason for water losses was identified but that losses have gone from 38% to 15%.
JOINT PERSONNEL AND SAFETY SERVICES
Council member Phill Talavinia reported on the committee meeting, noting that once applications are submitted they will begin interviewing for the new position of full-time EMS Chief. (The position is posted on www.bluffton-ohio.com/employment/ )
Steven Dale Neiderhiser, age 69, of McComb, Ohio, passed away at home as he wanted, peacefully in his sleep, on Sunday, December 8, 2024. He was born on October 1, 1955, in Fort Worth, Texas to the late Wayne and Dortha (Butler) Neiderhiser.
