For a number of years, First National Bank has been actively involved in providing financial education to youth in area schools. Students are taught the importance of saving, the differences between wants and needs, and about understanding the value of money. In 2010, the Bank started a "Young Entrepreneurs" program that specifically focused on encouraging the entrepreneurial spirit, personal responsibility, and creativity. This year, the Bank has continued delivering that message and encouraging students to take ownership of the things they want by earning their own money.
Maple Crest Senior Living Village participated in the "Fitness Day" that was organized by Wellness Coordinator, Jessica Ladd of BFR. Fitness Day was held around Bluffton at several locations that included a site at Maple Crest.
The two main activities that were featured at Maple Crest were: Wii Bowling and a miniature game of golf called "Sholf." The theme for the day was "Make Fitness a Goal for Life." Although the group that attended at MC was small, it was mighty!
Maple Crest held its annual fishing derby on June 9, which took place in unexpected sunshine! Approximately 240 people attended the event, a record crowd for the fishing derby.
Bluffton's Barberettes, a group of 25 women who give concerts in local senior living communities, will be performing twice during Bluffton's sesquicentennial celebrations.
They will appear at the Old Settlers Potluck at the Ebenezer Church, June 26th at 1:30 p.m. and also at the Bluffton Presbyterian Church June 29th at 8:00 p.m.
The Barberettes will present "Popular Songs from the Last 15 Decades". Included in the program is a song written especially for them and for the sesquicentennial celebration called "Bluffton Ohio".
Village Cut & Curl and friends team was started about 6-8 years ago. Lynda Best started a team because her own father had cancer and five years ago died from the disease. He first got chronic leukemia 24 years before, then he had squamas cell on his ear and had 32 lymph nodes in his neck and ear are removed. He then had prostrate cancer and acute leukemia. Ms. Best also lost grand parents, her mother in-law and several other friends and family member from cancer.
