Do you realize that our roadsides and hedgerows of the past allowed for abundant migration for birds and butterflies?
These small creatures cannot get far without native grasses and foods such as berries, cattails, wildflowers and grasses that once grew along roadsides. Bluffton's reputation for being a tennis town goes back to the late 1800s. This colorized picture post card proves it. The wording on the card reads "Tennis Courts, Bluffton, Ohio." The location of these courts was along East College Avenue where the Riley View Apartments are located today. (From the collection of Fred Steiner)
Four Bluffton University music students will take their talents to a New York City stage Oct. 21.
The performers, also including Dr. Lucia Unrau, professor and chair of Bluffton's music department, will present a 7 p.m. recital that Thursday in Manhattan's Steinway Hall. A reception will follow with university President Dr. James Harder.
"Having a debut in New York City is rare as a college student, and our students are honored and grateful for this opportunity," said Unrau.
