Boyd Leon Clapper 1912-2010

Boyd Leon Clapper

Boyd Leon Clapper, 98, of Ada, died 10:20 a.m. Dec. 4, 2010 at Richland Manor Nursing Home, Bluffton.

He was born April 12, 1912, in Paw Paw, Michigan, to Boyd and Edith Brown Clapper who preceded him in death. On Feb. 23, 1941 he married Phoebe Wilkins Clapper and had been married 69 years.

His family moved to Orange Township, Hancock County when he was 7 years old. He was a graduate of Ada High School in the class of 1930.

Transy snaps Bluffton win streak with 65-57 victory in Founders

The Bluffton University men's basketball team hosted HCAC rival Transylvania University on Saturday, December 4. The Beavers had the slight advantage at the half, 29-28 thanks to a Brent Farley (Lima/Shawnee) stickback. The Pioneers put together a strong second half, outscoring Bluffton 37-28 for the 65-57 victory. The Beavers suffered their first loss of the season as they slipped to 5-1 overall with a 1-1 mark in the Heartland Conference. The Pioneers improved to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the HCAC.

Dec. 9 bid closing on former Pandora Manufacturing facility

Sealed bids are due by 5 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 9, for the former Pandora Manufacturing plant. The building, located at 501 Basinger Road, includes 136,389 square feet and is located on slightly more than 12 acres of property.

The main building includes 18,163 square feet of office space and a second floor of 8,590 square feet. The property is zoned I-1 Industrial and has Pandora municipal utilities.

E. James Szabo 1924-2010

E. James Szabo

E. James Szabo, 86, of Bluffton, died 8:40 a.m., Dec. 4, 2010 at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. He was born April 15, 1924, in Elyria to James E. and Irma Kokai Szabo. On Sept. 24, 1949, he married Jean Ann Steinman and she survives.

Mr. Szabo retired from Pella Window and Door in 1994 and managed Steinman Lumber Company in Bluffton. A graduate of Baldwin-Wallace College, he was a violinist in the Lima Symphony Orchestra for over 40 years where he had been concertmaster, played in the Simon String Quartet and was a member of the music faculty at Bluffton College.
