Bluffton netters downed by Fostoria

The Bluffton girls tennis team lost to visiting Fostoria 4-1 Monday evening.

The Lady Pirate netters fell to 2-5 with the defeat.

Seniors Libby Frazier and Ellie Nickel registered the lone Pirate win at second doubles by a 6-1, 6-1 score.

Fostoria won the other four matches in straight sets.

The Pirate girls host Ottawa-Glandorf (4-2) Tuesday, August 31 and then play in the Elida Invitational Saturday, Sept. 4.

Bluffton spikers fall to Elida

The host Bluffton volleyball team dropped a hard-fought, four-set match to non-league rival Elida Monday night.

The Pirate girls fell to 2-1 after the 25-21, 19-25, 25-8, 25-23 defeat. Elida improved to 4-2 with the road win.

Senior middle hitter Kylie Stackhouse led the Pirates with 16 kills and three blocks.

Bluffton senior setter Skyler Scoles doled out 20 assists.

Elida's Addisyn Freeman and Kylie Vorhees each compiled 11 kills and two blocks.

Schaadt rallies Pirates past Rockets in OT

Host Bluffton scored in the final seconds of regulation to tie, and then went on to win in overtime 34-28 over non-league rival Pandora-Gilboa in a Friday night thriller at Harmon Field.    

The comeback victory upped the Bluffton record to 2-0, while P-G fell to 0-2 with the defeat.

Bluffton senior quarterback Nate Schaadt rushed for all five Pirate touchdowns and accounted for 407 yards in total offense to lead the red and white to victory.

Bluffton boys nip Wauseon at Elida

The Bluffton boys soccer team edged Wauseon 4-3 Saturday evening in the third-place game of the Elida Classic tournament.

Bluffton's semifinal game Thursday night was cancelled due to bad weather, which relegated the Pirates to the consolation contest.

The Pirates improved to 2-0 with the win, while Wauseon fell to 2-2 with the loss. Botkins faced Elida in the title game later Saturday night.

Lady Pirates edge Bath

The host Bluffton girls soccer team staved off Bath for a 2-1 non-league victory Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Pirate kickers evened their record at 1-1 with the first win of the season. Bath fell to 0-3 with the defeat.

Bluffton's Sami Scoles scored the first goal of the game in the 26th minute on an assist from Reagan Mittendorf.

The game stayed 1-0 into halftime, and remained that way for the first 33 minutes of the second half.
