A mysterious Bluffton place: Floating pool in the Buckeye

The world’s oceans hold many secrets. Sea monsters, sunken treasure and ghost ships fill our imagination with what’s below the surface of the mighty deep.

These great ponds do not, however, hold ownership to all watery mysteries. Surrounded by the Big and Little Rileys and several seemingly bottomless quarries, what Bluffton lacks in sea monsters, it makes up with mysteries held below its own waterlines.

Michael A. Pierce worked for SumiRiko

LIMA⎯Michael A. Pierce, age 64, passed away the evening of August 2, 2022, with family by his side.  

Michael was born July 24, 1958 in Lima, OH, to Harold and Martha (Wendelken) Pierce who both preceded him in death. 

Michael proudly served in the United States Navy for 6 years. He was employed by SumiRiko Ohio (formerly DTR) for 17 years. He leaves behind a great group of friends and co-workers.

Et Cetera Shop hours and donation reminder (and priceless photo)

The Et Cetera Shop thrift store issued this reminder and a photo demonstrating the dedication of volunteers who unload, sort and display items for sale.

And, as this photo shows, volunteers make sure that all items are in working order.

Next open: Saturday, August 6: 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

Next donation day: Tuesday from 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

Allen County Sheriff's Office warns of phone scam

We have received multiple complaints of Allen County residents receiving phone calls from an individual claiming to be from our office. The caller claims to have a warrant for the person who answers the phone, and then asks for private information and money for fines.

This is a scam! This person is not an employee of the Allen County Sheriff’s Office, and this IS NOT the way that the Allen County Sheriff’s Office handles warrants. If you receive one of these calls please do not give out your personal information and please do not give out your money.

David Yoder, MD, joins Bluffton Primary Care

Blanchard Valley Health System has announced that David Yoder, MD, a family medicine physician, has joined Bluffton Primary Care, 161 Garau Street.

Dr. Yoder is a 2011 graduate of Bluffton High School and is the son of Mark and Julie Yoder of Bluffton. He earned a bachelor of science degree in biology at Cedarville University (Cedarville, Ohio). He received his medical degree at Wright State University, Boonshoft School of Medicine (Dayton, Ohio).
