BHS sophomores visit Apollo on Friday

Bluffton High School sophomores will be among 700 sophomores in Apollo Career Center's 11-member district will be visiting Apollo during 411Blast, Friday, Jan. 24. 

BHS students will attend Apollo from 9:15 to 10:50 a.m.

The day exposes students to possibilities and paths available for their career and/or college success.

Students choose two programs of interest and then spend one-half day visiting those labs, meeting the instructors and participating in fun, interactive demos and activities.

Jonathan Schriner award winner in Witmarsum competition

Bluffton University’s student driven-media organization “The Witmarsum” hosted a journalism competition for high school students this winter.

Individual categories included feature story, hard news story, sports story, opinion and news feature photography.

First, second and third places in each individual category were awarded $75, $50 and $25, respectively.

Jonathan Schriner of Bluffton, was awarded first place in the hard news category. Schriner will be honored at the competition award ceremony on Wednesday, Jan. 29. 

 

University students share stories from cross-cultural experiences

Bluffton University students who participated in long-term cross-cultural experiences in the fall will speak during Forum at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, in Yoder Recital Hall. The presentation is free and open to the public.

Students who traveled to Washington, D.C., Nashville, Guatemala and France are planned to recount their experiences.

Most Bluffton undergraduate students participate in a three-week cross-cultural experience during the month of May. However, semester-long cross-cultural experiences are also available.

Wanda Kiene 1941 - 2020

Wanda L. Kiene, 78 of Pandora died 11:02 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2020, at Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay.  She was born Sept. 15, 1941, in Lima to the late Millard and Mildred (Hattery) Bok. On Oct. 24, 1959, she married Alton Kiene and he survives in Pandora.

Bluffton Public Library's Winter Book Challenge returns, and there's still time to participate.

The library announced the Winter Reading Program for children, teens, and adults is now underway. It is one of many programs in January. 

Pick up a Winter Reading Bookmark at the library, or download and print it from the library's website. Then complete five or more challenges during the months of January through March to receive a prize. You may then also enter a drawing to win a larger prize.

Mercy Health Lima President speaks on mission and relationships at Bluffton University Presidential Leadership Forum

Just as it is stressed at Bluffton, Ronda Lehman, president of Mercy Health, Lima,believes relationships are the key to getting things done.

“It’s relationships, relationships, relationships,” said Lehman, who spoke during Bluffton University’s Presidential Leadership Forum on Jan. 14 in Yoder Recital Hall. “You are building your reputation every day, and how you treat people is everything.”
