Cottonwood Jam String Band performs May 14 in town hall
An old-time dance with the Cottonwood Jam String Band will take place at 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 14, in the third floor of the Bluffton town hall.
According to Wendy Chappell-Dick of the village cultural affairs committee, "We will bring together four musicians from the greater Toledo area, the Cottonwood Jam String Band to play a blend of traditional old time, folk and bluegrass music for contra dances. Admission is by donation."
The Cottonwood Jam String Band is part of the Northwest Ohio Traditional Music and Dance, a non-profit organization promoting traditional American and English music and dance in northwest Ohio.
Contra dances have their roots in the community dances of New England. Music for the evening will include jigs and reels from Ireland, Scotland, Canada and the U.S. The tunes are more than a century old, or modern compositions which follow the same composition as the traditional pieces.
Chappel-Dick said: "Contra dance events are open to all, regardless of experience. They are family-friendly, and kids are welcome. A ~Ac^a'notA"caller~Ac^a'not^A
