Pirate tennis team tops Kenton 4-1
BHS girls tennis results after the first week of action:
Elida topped the Pirates 4-1 in the season opener at Harmon Field courts. Ashin Gable and Emily Sprague provided the lone BHS win at No. 1 doubles in straight sets. A revised BHS lineup saw Jessica Hunter, Kristi Geiser and Rachel Sehlhorst playing singles, with Liz Diller and Shaye Liddick playing No. 2 doubles.
Another Western Buckeye League powerhouse, Shawnee, topped Bluffton 4-1 in Lima. Gable and Sprague again provided the Pirate victory in straight sets. Hunter, Shannon Koch and Amanda Salmonson played singles, while Geiser and Diller were the other doubles unit.
BHS finally toppled a WBL school in the third match last week, scoring a 4-1 decision over Kenton. Sprague, Hunter and Koch all won straight set singles matches, while Gable and Geiser did the same at No. 1 doubles. Diller and Salmonson were edged at the other doubles slot.
Last Saturday's home match was postponed by rain after about 20 minutes of play. Celina will return to resume the match at a later date.
