Parent-teacher conferences, intervention meeting next week

PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES: Parent/teacher conferences are Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 21-22. School will not be in session Nov. 22-25.

Three holiday soccer tourneys set at BFR

Bluffton Family Recreation is now accept teams for three holiday soccer tournaments.

Here's holiday soccer tourney schedule:
• High school boys’ tournament is Saturday, Dec. 17
• Adult open tournament is Sunday, Dec. 18
• High school coed tournament is Wednesday, Dec. 21

Rash of thefts and burglaries changing our small-town lifestyle patterns

Uptick in crime here indicates a growing drug problem in Bluffton

A rash of thefts and burglaries in Bluffton since early June is changing some of our small-town lifestyle patterns.

Those changes have caused residents, who haven't done so in the past, to start locking house doors, car doors and outbuilding doors.

According to Bluffton Police Chief Ryan Burkholder, “The uptick in crime is disconcerting to residents and police,” indicating that a growing drug problem is a reality in Bluffton.

Burkholder says the Bluffton police are as proactive as the force can be as a result of the situation.

Quality control expert

This photo can only mean one thing: Bluffton Senior Citizens are creating this year's batch of the best homemade peanut brittle in Ohio. Bob Painter, on the scales, is the quality control guy. This year 700 pounds of peanut brittle will be produced with production on Monday mornings. And, yes, volunteers are needed. It takes 30 volunteers per session. The same secret reciple has been used for over 40 years. Peanute brittle is $5 per pound on sale at the Center.

There once was an ugly duckling...

Each of us knows the story of the “ugly duckling” – that sad tale with a happy ending.

Bluffton kindergarteners watched the Han Christian Anderson story unfold last week on the Ohio State University at Lima’s stage.

More than 1,500 area elementary students, including those from Bluffton and Pandora-Gilboa watched the performance. Jamie Nygaard offers these photos of the experience.
