Memorial service for David E. Burkholder Oct. 11

BRADENTON, Fla. — David Eugene Burkholder, 76, died August 20, 2016, at Rudy's Agape House in Bradenton, Florida, where he was lovingly cared for by familiar staff as he battled with Alzheimer's Disease.

Drive Time Driving Instruction offers Oct. 30 to Nov. 5 class

Between fall and winter sport seasons

Drive Time Driving Instruction, Bluffton, will offer a "Get 'r Done" class from Sunday, Oct. 30, to Saturday, Nov. 5.

Classes are held daily Sunday through Thursday evening and Saturday morning  between fall and winter sport seasons.

Bluffton and Findlay
Sunday, Oct. 30, 5:15-9:30 p.m.
Monday-Thursday, Oct. 31-Nov. 3, 5-9:15 p.m.
Saturday, Nov. 5, 8 a.m.-12:15 p.m.

Alumni Forum features Luke Shipp, 2004 grad

11 a.m., Oct. 25, in Yoder Recital Hall

Luke Shipp, vice president of commercial insurance, First Insurance Group, will lead this month’s Alumni Forum, at 11 a.m. on Oct. 25, in Yoder Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
 
The 2004 Bluffton alumnus will lead a panel of Bluffton alumni currently employed by the insurance industry and discuss his experience in the insurance field.
 

Having a ball at BFR

Several fall youth programs are now underway at Bluffton Family Recreation.
And, there’s still time to join any of the classes. Here are two youngsters having a ball or two during "tiny tot" play. The class is held on Fridays from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Call BFR at 419-358-4150 for details.

BCE 2017 Ropp Triplett Business Plan Competition offers $7,000 in cash prizes

Two division: Start Up and Emerging Division; and Small Business Improvement Division

Cash and in-kind awards valued at $7,000 are prizes in Bluffton Center For Entrepreneurs’ 2017 Ropp Triplett Business Plan Competition, announced this week by BCE.

The contest's Start-up Division offers a $4,000 first place, $1,000 second place and $500 third place cash awards, in addition to several in-kind prizes. It is open to contestants from Allen, Hancock, Putnam and Hardin counties.

Woodruff family quintet returns for alumni band night

Margie told The Icon: “It was a really fun night to have our family together and everyone under one roof, if just for one night!”

The musical Woodruff family – each a Bluffton High School marching band alum - returned to Bluffton on Friday to be part of the BHS alumni band. 

They were part of a 40-member alumni band marching with the BHS band during a pre-game performance.

Joshua played trombone; Mary, E-flat horn; Rachel, clarinet; Emma, cymbals and Noah is this year's senior field commander.

Here's an update on each Woodruff:

• Joshua, graduate of Brigham Young University, lives in Cincinnati with his wife, Sarah. He attends Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science.
