Library host to National Gaming Day

Looking for a place to hang out and have fun with your friends or family? Read, learn and play during "National Gaming Day @ Your Library."

On Saturday, Nov. 13, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Bluffton Public Library will host special gaming programs for all ages to celebrate the popularity and educational value of video and board games.

"The Ugly Truth" book release party Nov. 9 at library

Face "The Ugly Truth" at Bluffton Public Library! On Tuesday, Nov.9 at 3:30 p.m., the Bluffton Public Library will host a "Wimpy Kid Release Party" to celebrate the arrival of The Ugly Truth, book number five in the popular series for kids.

Children ages 7-15 are invited to attend the party dressed in purple to match the latest book cover. Prizes will be awarded to winners of WIMPY Bingo and a copy of the new book will be given away as a door prize. No registration is required.

Icon viewers will name No. 1 tagged trout

Bluffton Icon viewers get their chance to vote on the name of the Bluffton Sportmen's Club number number 1 tagged trout for 2011. Tom Augsburger and Ryan Matter of the club, invited The Icon to create a poll for viewers to pick the trout's name.

The trout derby is the first Sunday of May. Next year's derby will celebrate Bluffton's 150th anniversary.

Three possible names were selected by club members as the number 1 trout.

Bluffton University student pianists relish Big Apple debut

For any musician, making a New York debut is a big deal. To be a college student and make a New York debut, that is huge.

Four Bluffton University students made their New York debut Oct. 21 with a piano recital in historic Steinway Hall. Pianists Brandon Fullenkamp, a senior from Wapakoneta, Stephanie Patterson, a junior from Findlay, and Tim Yoder, a junior from Dalton, performed alongside Dr. Lucia Unrau, professor and chair of music. Fullenkamp debuted a piece composed by fellow student James Brake, a junior from Ohio City.

Bluffton to host discussion of 2010's top picture books

Floyd C. Dickman, a children's literature specialist, will present "Outstanding Picture Books of 2010" on Thursday, Nov. 4, in the Kreider Room of Bluffton University's Marbeck Center.

Free and open to the public, identical hour-long sessions will begin at 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Sessions for Bluffton third-grade and home-schooled students will be held in the same room at 10:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m.
