Why why why why why?

Anyone who has spent time with a toddler is all too familiar with the "why" stage. Every statement that an adult makes is followed by a tiny, pestering, voice asking "Why?" The too-pat answer of "Just because" rarely ends that conversation because children of that stage just won't give up. Eventually, they grow up and in their teen years, the conversation flips to the parent always asking "Why?" Of course, by then the child no longer cares to continue any conversation with his or her parents and the "why" becomes moot.

David Voth wrote the book on "Quality Victim Advocacy: A Field Guide"

"Quality Victim Advocacy: A Field Guide," is the title of a book published this month by David L. Voth of Bluffton.

Crime victim advocacy is a subject that Voth come into contact with daily as director of Crime Victim Services, Lima.

The author said that the field guide explores the needs of crime victims and how to create and evaluate victim-centered services.

4 Bluffton residents featured on WTLW's Grace for Today

Four Bluffton residents will share their stories on WTLW TV 44's Grace for Today program in early February.

Phil and Sharon Zimmerly, of Common Grounds coffee shop, Jim "Train" King of Ebenezer Mennonite Church and Beth Boehr-Miller, who recently launched a news business, are the guests, according to Christina Ryan Claypool, herself a Bluffton University graduate, and host of the television program, which airs at 9 a.m. each morning.

This photo is a real gem.

Here is the Bluffton Methodist Episcopal choir. Fortunately someone took the time to write the names of the members, so today, although most of the names are unfamiliar to us, we, at least know who they are. Beyond that there are several other things in the photo worth pointing out.

First the members: Standing from left, Oren (Soapy), Florence Bogart, (woman unidentified), Alice Lambert Lugibill and Effa Grindell.

Meet 13 superior eighth grade scientists

13 SUPERIOR SCIENTISTS

The annual Bluffton Middle School Science Fair was held on Jan. 21. There were 23 students presenting projects with 13 receiving a score of superior. Fifteen judges took the time to review these 23 projects, including teachers, retired teachers, engineers, doctors and professors. The students scoring superior have the opportunity to compete at District Science Fair at Ohio Northern University on March 13. They will be competing with approximately 200 of the best projects from an eight-county region.
