Time to "Fall Back"

Daylight Savings ends in the wee hours this Saturday-Sunday, November 2-3. Whether you change your clocks before you go to bed on Saturday or when you get up on Sunday, you’ll need to move them back one hour. The change officially takes place at 2:00 a.m. EST.

Weekend Doctor: Holidays and depression

The holiday months (mid-November to post-January) can be extremely difficult for loved ones suffering from mental illness. It’s postulated that family members and friends can reach intolerable levels of anxiety and depression during this time due to accentuated family dynamics, financial strain, and other stressors.

Clamshell plastics now part of Rumpke recycling

Rumpke Waste & Recycling has added a new acceptable item for recycling—clamshell plastic containers starting November 1, 2024.

Residents can now add clamshells to their recycling carts. This will include clear plastic carry-out containers; fruit, berry and lettuce containers and egg containers. For information on current guidelines, visit Rumpke HERE.

Top Bluffton scarecrows selected in 850+ vote competition

The Bluffton Area Chamber had 26 entries in the 2024 Scarecrow Decorating Contest. After 850+ votes, the winners are:

  • 1st: Samuel W. Diller, Law Offices with 628 votes
  • 2nd: Et Cetera Shop, with 165 votes
  • 3rd: GROB, with 137 votes

Honorable mentions also go to Langan Family Finds, Fortman Insurance and Diamond Manufacturing for getting close to or over 100 votes for their entries.

Organizer Liz Gordon-Hancock remarked, "Thank you to all the businesses who participated this year. This is the third year we've done this contest and I was especially encouraged to have over five businesses choose to take part who had never participated before

"I hope this fun, fall activity continues to grow and we can extend the competition to residences in the future!"

Throughout the month of November, the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) is conducting an online survey to identify traffic safety concerns and obtain feedback about interactions with the agency.
