When this photo was taken, the Triplett Corp. was Bluffton's largest employer. Here are two photos of the plant located along Harmon Road, which is today owned by Diamond Manufacturing.

Forgotten Bluffton: What's the story of the Bluffton hospital?

Its founding goes back more than 110 years

Today, we take for granted that Bluffton has a hospital. Not every rural community, however, has one. What is the story behind how the hospital came into existence?

That story follows:

In February 1908 a stock company, incorporated for $20,000, was organized in Bluffton for the purpose of established a local sanitarium.

The home of Dr. J.J. Sutter, remodeled the previous year, was chosen for the sanitarium.

It was located on the northeastern corner of East College Avenue and Main Street, today the site of the Bluffton Public Library.

Large three-phase solar project underway near McGuffey

Power generating facility of up to 300 megawatts

FROM ADA ICON - Erin Saal, associate renewable development staff member for Invenergy, updated Ada chamber members in late March on the Hardin Solar Development project in the McGuffey area.

“The project is a solar power generation facility of up to 300 megawatts (MW), targeted to begin operating in 2023," she said.

"Solar technology uses the sun to deliver energy and is now one of the lowest-cost energy sources available,” she said.

Council passes sidewalk cafe legislation

Swimming pool open date not yet set

Bluffton council okayed legislation on Monday to permit sidewalk cafes in the village.

The action is specific to a request from the owners of The Greenhorn Restaurant on Vine Street. The owners have requested to allow outdoor dining with food and wine on the menus.

Now that the village established the legislation, the Greenhorn owners need to meet requirements from the Ohio Department of Liquor Control before proceeding with their outdoor plan.

Senior soccer standouts receive university athletic awards

A.C. Burcky and Kathryn Little awards

Bluffton University is recognizing standout senior athletes in men's and women's soccer as the 2021 athletes of the year.

Patrick Spillman of Anderson, Ind., received the 2021 A.C. Burcky Award as outstanding senior male athlete of the year.
