Louise Reichenbach, Carolyn Green will receive life memberships to Senior Citizens Association

 

Two members of the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center will receive life memberships at the Association’s May dinner meeting. The two are Louise Reichenbach and Carolyn Green.

Wendy Chappell Dick will perform during the dinner meeting. The dinner is at 6 p.m., Monday, May 12, and tickets must be purchased by May 7. Tickets are $7 each.

Schnipke Inn, Ottawa, will cater the meal, which includes barbecue pulled pork, au gratin potatoes, green beans, apple sauce, buttered rolls and chocolate mousse.

Saturn is closer than you think--and you can see it Friday

Icon viewers are invited to the ONU Observatory in Ada on Friday, May 2, for the event called "Saturn near opposition." The event, which is open to the public, is from 9 to 11 p.m.

Saturn actually reaches opposition on May 10, but this event takes place while the students are still on campus. During opposition, Saturn is optimally positioned for viewing: it is at its closest to the Earth and rises just as the Sun sets.

Just a few spots remain for craft vendors for the Saturday, May 10, Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce arts and crafts show. Information about the show and other chamber information is in the current chamber newsletter.

Six math workshops available to teachers

Bluffton University will offer six summer mathematics workshops—five of them new this year—for teachers of elementary through high school students.

The 26th annual workshops, hosted by adjunct faculty member Duane Bollenbacher, are all three-day sessions, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. Cost per workshop is $125 if it is for Local Professional Development Committee credit, or $275 for graduate workshop credit. Lunches are included; other meals and housing are available.

Two Bluffton students earn accounting scholarship

 

Two Bluffton University accounting students have won a scholarship that will enable them to study for and take the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) exam at no cost.

Receiving the CMA Scholarship recently from the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) were senior Riley Patterson of Arcadia, Ohio, and junior Matthew McCoy of Archbold, Ohio.

Three firms sponsor Be A Beaver Triathlon

Three companies have signed on as sponsors of Bluffton’s first Be A Beaver Triathlon, to be held Saturday, May 31.

Sponsoring the event are CenturyLink, a Fortune 500 telecommunications firm; Shirley’s Gourmet Popcorn Co. of Bluffton; and Muddy River Bicycle Co. of Findlay, Ohio. Community partners are the village of Bluffton and the Bluffton Community Swimming Pool.

Beginning at 8 a.m. on May 31 at the pool, the event will include a 400-meter swim, a 20K bike ride on nearby country roads and a 5K run through village streets and the Bluffton University Nature Preserve.
