Rev. John McLaughlin installation Saturday at St. Mary's

There’s a New York Mets cap in Rev. John McLaughlin’s office at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. There’s also a Notre Dame cap.
Both are naturals for a priest, whose parents were Irish immigrants to Brooklyn. Rev. McLoughlin is the new priest for the St. Mary’s parish. His installation is at 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 20. Bishop Daniel Thomas, will preside.
Bluffton's pedestrian pathway grew one-quarter mile this summer

There’s a new pedestrian and bike path extension in Bluffton.
It parallels Bentley Road on the west side for one-quarter mile from Augsburger Road to Riley Creek Village at the intersection of Richland Drive.
Its dedication and ribbon cutting is at 4 p.m., Monday, Sept. 23, according to Richard Ramseyer, board chair of the Bluffton pathway committee. The dedication, open to the public, will take place near the Riley Village entrance of Bentley Road.

This is Stepleton's pool hall, or Sam's Lunch, on North Main Street, Bluffton. On the left is Denver "Demps" Augsburger. On the right is Sam Stepleton, proprietor.
The photo was taken Sept. 10, 1940. Denver Augsburger eventually was a parter in the business as it was known later as Charlie and Demps and later, Demps and Stoney. It eventually became Stoney's and was located near the location of Luke's Bar and Grill.
Note the token, inserted on the bottom left, for Sam's Lunch, Bluffton, Ohio. This token was spotted recently on e-Bay.
Geneva Shetler was born Geneva May Stamm on July 8, 1919, to Gustav and Priscilla (Stuckey) Stamm on a farm near Archbold, Ohio.
She was the 6th of 10 children and Geneva worked with her brothers and sisters helping take care of the younger children, raising the animals, working in the garden and truck patch, and putting up produce.

Retired Bluffton elementary teacher, Geneva Shetler, 100, died surrounded by family on Sept. 13, 2019, at the Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton.

Geneva was born on a farm near Archbold, Ohio, and graduated from Archbold High School in 1936. She attended Goshen College, Indiana, where she met her husband-to-be, Luther Shetler. They were married on Dec. 22, 1940.
