School athletes and technology update

Physicals for 2021-22 given on May 28

This column was originally published in the school’s spring newsletter.

The high school and middle school sponsored seven sports in the fall season. Sports offered for athletes in high school include cheerleading, cross country, volleyball, tennis, soccer, golf, and football. Total participants for the fall season in the high school were approximately 200 students.

Bluffton artist exhibit in Marathon Center

Philip Sugden, Bluffton University professor of studio art and gallery director, show open through June 30

Philip Sugden, Bluffton University art professor, has an exhibit currently open at the Marathon Center for the Performing Arts' in Findlay.

The exhibit is in the Performing Arts’ Fisher/Wall Art Gallery. It is the current exhibition by MCPA/Fifth Third Bank Wall of Fame inductee, Philip Sugden, titled, “Inland Empire: Recent Work by Artist, Philip Sugden.”

About the artist
Born and raised in Swanage, Dorset, England, Sugden is a graduate of the New York School of Visual Arts and the Paris American Academie des Beaux Arts in Paris.

Bluffton boys out-slug Hornets, earn 1st win

Freshman Braeden Jordan hit 2 singles, scored 3 runs, stole 5 bases to ignite the Pirate offense. Freshman Kerry Wright singled twice, scored 4 runs, had 1 RBI

RAWSON - The visiting Bluffton baseball team jumped out to an early lead and staved off a late rally to defeat local rival Cory-Rawson 13-10 in non-league play Friday evening.

The Pirates led 6-0 early and extended the margin to 13-5 after five frames. C-R tallied five runs in the sixth and seventh innings to inch within three, but could get no closer.

Freshman-laden Bluffton improved to 1-24 with their first win, while Cory-Rawson dropped to 5-16 with the defeat.

Bluffton out-hit C-R 8-7, drew nine walks and swiped 13 bases.

Hannah Davis improved to 4-5 with the win as she scattered 4 hits. She also helped herself with a run-scoring triple

ARLINGTON - The visiting Bluffton softball team romped past Arlington 17-2 in a non-league makeup contest under the lights Friday evening.

The Lady Pirates improved to 9-14 with the blowout win. Arlington fell to 3-14 after the defeat.

Bluffton tallied seven runs in the top of the third inning to break open a scoreless contest. The Pirates added four more runs in the fourth to build an 11-0 cushion.

Bluffton school orchestras participate in large group contest

High school, junior high and 6th grade orchestras

The Bluffton School orchestras recently participated in a re-imagined large group contest held on May 6. 

Dave Stein, Lima Senior Orchestra director, was invited to adjudicate the Bluffton orchestras. The orchestras are under the direction of Rachael E. Lewis. 

Bluffton HS Orchestra performed in class "C" playing "Measured Tones" by Alan Lee Silva and "Concertino in G" by Elliot del Borgo. Rating 'Superior."
