Jean H. Schumacher 1921-2012
Jean H. Schumacher, 91 of Bluffton died at 3:57 p.m., May 25, 2012 at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. She was born April 8, 1921, in Berne, Indiana to William and Lillie (Moser) Habegger. On July 2, 1944, she married Emerson Basinger and he died August 28, 1982. She then married Nelson Schumacher December 27, 1985 and he died December 22, 2011.
She was a homemaker and partner in Basinger Builders, Pandora. She was a member of St. John Mennonite Church, Pandora. She was a graduate of Berne High School and was an alumna of Wheaton College, Wheaton, Ill..
Survivors include a daughter Linda (John) Reimer of Omaha, Nebraska; two sons David (Linda Quinlan) Basinger of Rochester, N.Y., Randall (Rebekah) Basinger of Dillsburg, Pa.; two stepsons Ron (Donna) Schumacher of Davoa City, Phillipines, Kendrick (Ann) Schumacher of Pandora; two stepdaughters Mary Jo (Tim) Wiens of Silver Spring, Md., Barbara Schumacher of Pandora; 18 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and two sisters Alice (Roy) Asaki of San Diego, Calif., Grace (Paul) Hammond of Indianapolis, Ind.
A sister Betty Schumacher preceded her in death.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 111 a.m. Monday May 28, 2012 at St. John Mennonite Church, Pandora. Rev. Daniel Amstutz officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. A private graveside will be held at St. John Mennonite Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Mennonite Church Mission Fund or the Nelson and Jean Schumacher Endowed Scholarship at Bluffton University.
