Diller speaks to Lions on Jan. 18

The Bluffton Lions Club will meet at 11:50 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 18, at Maple Crest. Sam Diller is the guest speaker. He will talk about being a small town lawyer.

Mennonite Home volunteers helping in a special way with Haiti relief efforts

When Betty Picklesimer heard about the group from St. John Mennonite Church, Pandora, that was going to go to Haiti in February, she wondered what she could do to help support such an effort.

The group needed volunteers to go and work on construction crews, to help with the medical needs, and to teach about healthy living and how to avoid getting cholera and other infections.

Beavers 10-4 after Manchester victory

The Bluffton University men's basketball team hosted the Spartans of Manchester College on Wednesday, January 12. The Beavers held a slim 36-34 advantage at the break before outscoring the Spartans 47-38 in period two. Bluffton picked up another win, bumping its record to 10-4 overall and 3-4 in the Heartland Conference. The Spartans fell to 9-5 and 5-2 in the HCAC.

Manchester tops Bluffton women by 1

The Bluffton University women's basketball team fell to Heartland Conference rival Manchester, 58-57, on Wednesday, January 12, in Stauffer-Wolfe Arena. Manchester improved to 7-7 overall and 5-2 in the HCAC. Bluffton dropped to 2-5 in the conference and 5-9 on the season.

The Beavers took a 10-2 lead following a Brittany Lewis (Springfield/Shawnee) jumper in the paint at the 14:46 mark. Less than two minutes later, back-to-back baskets by Lauren Hutton (New Riegel) gave the Beavers a 10-point advantage over the Spartans.

Library host to several winter events

Say goodbye to the winter blues by participating in one or many fun events that Bluffton Public Library will host this season.

First, on Thursday, Feb. 10, from 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m., Lois Benham of Scrapbooks in Lima, will present a handmade card workshop. Participants will make three handmade cards for friends or family this Valentine's Day. Samples of the cards are on display at the library. There is a $12 fee for supplies and individuals should bring a glue stick and scissors.
